Job purpose
·  To support the Reporting & Business Intelligence team with the delivery of reporting and information services, including database development, SQL-based report writing and information analysis.
·  To support and participate in Wessex Institute reporting and business intelligence projects.
·  To support the delivery of the Wessex Institute and partner organisation’s Information Strategies.
·  To work with other members of the team to deliver a high quality service (and provide cover for them), with the objective of allowing the team to continue to meet business need when other supporting roles are unavailable or require additional capacity to deliver a high priority task.

1.  / Support Wessex Institute in eliciting and understanding end user reporting requirements. / 15%
2.  / Undertake query development through SQL Server and the delivery of reports using one or more of the following products: SQL Server Reporting Services, SharePoint, QlikView and Excel. Assist with ensuring these activities contribute to the security, reliability and data quality of core business information systems. / 40%
3.  / Participate in the delivery of reports, metrics, project portfolio analysis and other management information as required including parliamentary questions and Department of Health enquiries. / 25%
4.  / Support the development of good working practises, policies and standards, which support the Information Team and the delivery of reporting. / 5%
5.  / Help to identify issues with data quality and work with business users to implement resolutions. / 5%
6.  / Maintain coding standards, commenting and technical documentation when producing queries. / 5%

Internal and external relationships /
The post holder will be expected to work productively with other iSolutions staff as part of an integrated team, so that Wessex Institute information management is developed within the University-wide framework appropriately adapted to local needs.
The post holder will be expected to help establish robust working relationships with suppliers based on clearly defined service levels and standards, working practices and change management procedures. They will work with other staff within the Wessex Institute to understand their database and information needs and support the team in factoring these into the Information Strategy, business planning and budgeting.
The post holder will work with external staff, for example at the Department of Health (DH) or the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), to provide information as appropriate and to be aware of DH guidance on matters such as the Data Protection Act.

Qualifications, knowledge & experience / Degree and/or relevant equivalent experience in a technical/numerate subject
Experience of providing business reporting to a client’s specification
Good knowledge of T-SQL/Microsoft SQL Server. and demonstrable experience in SQL Query Development
Experience of report development in one or more of the following packages:
·  SQL Server Reporting Services,
·  Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS)
·  QlikView or Tableau
·  PowerPivot
Knowledge of best practice in data and service quality
Knowledge of database design.
Experience of working with or developing against a DBMS
Experience of working in an IT service role / Experience of gathering customer requirements for a report or project
Experience of SharePoint site development, and/ or of using SharePoint as information delivery platform
Experience of database troubleshooting and query optimisation
Experience of using SSIS, SSAS
