ASCSU Weekly Report 10/12/10

President’s Report –Cooper Anderson

New This Week:

§  Individuals up for ratification this week:

o  Hammam Belgasen-Assistant Director of Leadership Development

o  David Chambers-Assistant Director of Legislative Affairs

o  Please login to RamLink and keep familiarizing yourself with the site. Find ASCSU's page and request membership.

§  Financial Accountability Plan Highlights:

o  The credit level "gap" will be adjusted to 12 credits from 10 credits. In other words, tuition will cost less credit-by-credit starting at the 12 credit line instead of 10. This means an increase of $525 per semester for a student taking 12 or more credits by just moving the line.

o  This report is a placeholder for more discussion through Q2 2011. It is certainly not the final word from the CSU system and is not a referendum on an "increase" beyond the moving of the line.

o  "Subsequent to FY12, assuming no further reductions in state funding, CSU plans to remain within the tuition increase provided within Senate Bill 10-003 of not more than 9%."

o  More than 4,000 students were Pell Grant eligible in Academic Year (AY) 09-10, a CSU record.

o  Differential tuition is only mentioned briefly. However, a comprehensive model will be released in a few months from the CSU System. This means that different colleges could start charging different amounts for their credit hours depending on their costs.

Ongoing Reminders:

§  Please get your office hours to Associate Director Andrew Riley ASAP so he can post those to the website.

§  Please throw away any junk in the office to keep our space clean, especially newspapers and papers that are not needed anymore. If you think something might need to be saved, please file it away.
