Regular Meeting

Lion President Laura Maki called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. at the Arlington Haus with the following members present:

Correspondence

A thank you was read from the Good Samaritan Center regarding the donation of a hearing aid. The club does not know to what this refers.

Approved as read.

Information from Lion Pete Arneson indicates that $4,260.00 remains on the loan. Lion Pat Liebl will discuss this with the scout leadership.

Tail Twisting

Lion Pat read a very interesting article to the membership regarding sight. He admirably performed his duties.

Old Business

  1. Lion Laura and Eunice reported on the Midwinter Convention. Approximately 400 people attended the necrology service where PDG Darwin was remembered. A well-attended dance was held and interesting seminars were presented. A number of interesting speakers made presentations.
  2. Lions Pat and Dan reported on the Fish Fry. All went well except for moisture problems while frying near the end of the event. Lion Pat will work on resolving this issue. Lion Dan will place a thank you and explanation in the Enterprise. Lion Pat stated that the only viable use for some of the profits would be the purchase of a grill for the Group Home. No action was taken on this request. In addition, more help is needed setting out the fish and on Thursday evening.
  3. Regarding community projects, Lions Pat and Dan reported that we may still hear from the Good Sam regarding their major renewal project. We also now have a couple of suggestions from the city regarding an electric door feature for the large door used for unloading supplies and a bigger ice machine. Despite meeting with the school superintendent, no requests for assistance have been received.
  4. Lion President Laura reported that a TV has been purchased for the After Prom Party.
  5. Lion President Laura reported that work is progressing on the MD5M Convention. Registrations are a requirement. Forms are available on the club website:
  6. The club will be providing pizza for the JHS Leos on April 6.
  7. Tour of tables is March 13. The co-chairs are presenting a gnome theme. Lions Deanna Soost, MarlysGaucher, Carol Mayer, and Laura Maki and in charge.
  8. Journey for Service is April 14 with $3 per member being budgeted as a contribution.

New Business

  1. Moved by Lion Pat Liebl and seconded by Lion Nancy Hislop to donate $500 for the purchase of a park bench for the St. Paul’s School playground restoration project. The project meets the requirements of the donation guidelines, as the playground is open to all and serves youth. The membership unanimously approved the donation.
  2. Lions Laura and Eunice are almost finished with a slate of officer candidates for the upcoming year. The election will be at the April meeting.
  3. Registration forms for the multiple convention are on the website.
  4. Moved by Lion Pat Liebl and seconded by Lion Judy Liebl to donate $300 to help defray travel expenses for Leo Joe Maki’s Youth Exchange trip to Norway this summer. The motion was unanimously approved.
  5. Lion President Laura is proceeding with plans for a theater trip to MSU to see “The Producers”.
  6. Town and Country Days is June 18. The club is exploring the possibility of providing another pork chop dinner.
  7. The club directed Lion Laura to secure 10 tickets to the Eye Bank tour on October 1, 2011.
