Boise Convention & Visitors Bureau Announces Boise’s

Autumn Bucket List

BOISE –Even though summer temperatures are still here, it’s time to begin planning for fall break. To begin charting your fall to-do list, visitboise.org.

Fall into festivals.

For the first day of fall the Farmstead Festival opens—for a full month visitors can get into the spirit of fall by picking pumpkins, jumping on a hayride, getting lost in the corn maze or blasting apples.

Sample eats and drinks.

Boise has excellent culinary fare year-round, but with the autumn season comes several opportunities to try new things. For beer lovers, Boise celebrates Oktoberfest at the end of September with Idaho’s largest fresh hop beer festival, Hoptober Freshtival as well as Funky Fresh and the Old Boise Oktoberfest. During the last week of October, local restaurants are creating a reason to “Dine Out Downtown” with chef collaborations, specialty ingredients and lots of deals for diners. Finally, in early November, Idaho Wines hosts a way for visitors to sip their way through Idaho’s best wines and sample savory bites from local appetizers at Sippin’ in the City.

Be outside.

While the weather cools off and days get shorter, there is no shortage of activities for Idaho’s outdoor enthusiasts. Those looking to get fit and move can join the Onward Shay full marathon at the end of October. October also will be time for the Gowen Thunder airshow—a one-time, free event on the 70th anniversary of the Air Force filled with aerial acrobatics and the sounds of USAF Thunderbirds.

Get scared.

Of course, what would fall be without a some spooky events too. The Idaho Horror Film Festival is back—the three-day event shines a spotlight on Idaho’s emerging filmmakers and celebrates horror film through cinematic experiences around the city. The Old Idaho Penitentiary has plenty of spooky events customized to all ages. Friday the 13th is ‘Freaky Friday’ where the Idaho Historical Society revisits the violent sides of the Old Pen with “true ghost stories” from past inmates. The end of October is also an adult night with their Frightened Felons haunted cell house.

Dive into the arts.

The Idaho Shakespeare Festival is iconic for Boise’s summers, but when the season ends in Early October, arts enthusiasts head inside for Boise Contemporary Theater’s 2017-2018 season. The Boise Film Festival in late September helps Boise “rethink film” with productions from local filmmakers and storytellers, as well as some exciting premiers and parties. The Boise Philharmonic is an anchor to the city’s arts scene. This fall season they feature concerts of the classic Carmina Burana and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Visitors can see other modern, performance art twists on stage with Ballet Idaho’s New Dance Up Close—where the dancers become the choreographers—and LED’s Waters into Wilderness.
