Associate Vice President, Student Leadership Initiatives 11/13 – Present

Lead the design and execution of a global strategy for leadership and fellowship development at NYU. The mission of the Leadership Initiative is to galvanize a network of young leaders who reflect the diversity of our global society and are prepared to work together to address complex challenges. Through the Initiative’s various offerings, students develop the self-awareness and skills they need to create shared vision and take action with others to achieve meaningful results. Three offices within the Leadership Initiative work together to achieve this mission: Leadership Development, Fellowship Advising and the Reynolds Program in Social Entrepreneurship.

·  Design and direct programming that enables all members of the NYU community to develop their capacity as ethical, inclusive and collaborative global leaders

·  Establish and manage a hub for leadership that supports, integrates and aligns existing efforts across the University and builds thought leadership

·  Oversee the creation and coordination of communities of practice among relevant students, faculty, staff and alumni

·  Supervise recruitment and support for student applicants for national scholarships and fellowships

·  Work with the Vice Provost and relevant University departments to develop internal and external strategic messaging and communications that inform and educate, as well as define NYU as the place for students who aspire to be ethical and inclusive global leaders

·  Manage the evaluation of Leadership Initiative activities and track progress against established goals

·  Recruit, supervise and develop team of eight professionals

Executive Director, Research Center for Leadership in Action 6/07 – 10/13

Partnered with the faculty director to lead the development of a strategic plan for an academic center whose mission is to build knowledge and capacity for leadership that produces social transformation

·  Facilitated a stakeholder engagement process that resulted in the articulation of the Center’s mission, vision and core strategies

·  Created an organizational structure and operating procedures to support the achievement of the mission

Directed external affairs, fiscal operations and human resources to ensure on-going sustainability for the Center and its programs

·  Raised and managed annual budget of between $750,000 and $1,500,000 exclusively from external sources, including corporate and private foundations

·  Recruited, supervised and developed team of five full time professional research and administrative staff

·  Recruited and engaged a network of over 25 affiliated faculty, fellows and scholars who collaborated on leadership research and development programs

·  Created and managed effective infrastructure systems including staff performance development, fiscal oversight, communications and knowledge management

·  Represented the Center within the School, broader University and relevant scholarly and practitioner communities

Developed and managed leadership research and development programs with diverse partners across the U.S. and globally

·  Designed and delivered learning programs for grantees of the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation, including an annual retreat for CEOs and senior staff from high performing youth development organizations across the U.S.

·  Designed a Leadership Development Initiative for the Association of Performing Arts Presenters and co-facilitated collaborative inquiry groups of mid-career presenting professionals

·  Directed the Bloomberg Innovation Delivery Fellowship as part of Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Innovation Delivery Team program, which supported mayors in leading change on cross-cutting priority issues in their city

·  Partnered with the National Urban Fellows to develop and execute a research agenda on public service leadership diversity in the U.S.

·  Led a team of researchers to develop a theory of change for a MasterCard Foundation initiative on leadership in microfinance in Africa

·  Designed and delivered an executive leadership program for the National Hispanic Medical Association

Assistant Dean, Enrollment and Student Services 12/04 – 5/07

Director, Admissions and Financial Aid 12/02 – 11/04

As a member of the School’s executive team, directed programs, operations, and staff of ten responsible for recruitment, admissions, financial aid, and student services

·  Led merger of two units, including redesign and integration of all programs and services

·  Restructured team, rewrote job descriptions, and developed performance evaluation system

Developed annual enrollment targets; supervised development of recruitment and media plan; contributed to school-wide communications efforts; oversaw admissions process for master’s degree and non-degree programs; and managed $2 million financial aid budget

·  Managed enrollment process to bring in tuition revenue at or above target each year
