What Participating Teachers Receive

Lesson

$200 total (Stipend request submitted July 30th) / During own time / PKI
Note: NSF Stipends are calculated on the basis of five days for Week One ($80 per day) and five days for Week Two ($80 per day), and a Lesson Outline ($100) and a Lesson Draft ($100). Participant absence will need to be made up later to receive the full stipend.

·  Workshop participants will also each receive 4 free TekBot Robotics kits, free background materials and various TekBot lesson ideas

·  Optional graduate credit (up to 6 hours, regular UNO fees and tuition rates apply)

TED 8970 – Independent Study and TED 8100 Independent Research; Summer, Fall, Spring

·  Cutting-edge educational robotics knowledge and tools related to science, engineering, and electronics instruction, delivered by hard-working instructors J

·  Opportunity for professional collaboration with a variety of colleagues

·  Being put on a “first contact” list for additional workshop and grant opportunities

Expectations of Participating Teachers

During Summer SPIRIT Teacher Institute

·  Understand that this needs to be challenging (To provide an overall engineering background)

·  Attend and actively participate in the full two weeks of Teacher Institute (5 days per week)

·  Complete Institute pre-surveys and post-surveys, as well as a release form

·  Keep careful notes in an engineering notebook

·  Develop at least one lesson outline/draft to share at the end of the Institute

(2 Page Lesson Outline and 4 Page Lesson Draft following SPIRIT sample)

·  Get excited about working and learning together!

During Fall and Spring Semesters (as possible)

·  Attend monthly support meetings when possible (Selected Saturday mornings, $50 stipends)

·  Try your educational robotics activity with your students and share with SPIRIT folk

·  Administer student pre and post assessments (Optional, following any needed approvals)

·  Keep or record a few student work samples and send them to us

·  If desired, invite a SPIRIT team member to visit your classroom to observe a robotics lesson
