MEETING MINUTES FOR September 2013

August and June

President Review/Updates:
2014 Board: Courtney Nicholson has accepted to run for President Elect for 2014. Mary Roome-Godbolt is making good progress on having volunteers for the 2014 board.
Board retreat: Cookology on 10/15.
Fall seminar: We have all speakers (3) confirmed and have been submitted to HRCI. It will be $49 for members and $99 for non-members. Registration should start on 9/15.
Marymount is our only sponsor at the moment.
Membership: Courtney Nicholson updated the board that we are ready for the fall happy hour with a casino theme. We will spend $500 in give-a-ways.
Website: No updates
Treasurer’s Reports: Tim Kelly was absent and we did not have a Treasurer report.
Registration: In Jenifer Regis’ absence, Joe Sherrier updated the board that the August meeting we had 51 in attendance including the 9 walk-ins, 8 paid and didn’t show, 2 people registered and didn’t show.
For the September meeting we have 27 people registered thus far.
Capture change isn’t working from a database standpoint. Joe Sherrier will check with Keli Winter.
Programs: Linda White updated the board that the August meeting feedback was off the charts. The August speaker, Matt Nieman has agreed to return next year. We only have one more speaker to fill in 2014.
Sponsors: Vince Pascarella updated the board that we now has a September sponsor. October and November are still available for sponsorship.
He have locked down the Annual sponsor for 2014, which is USI insurance.
Discussed holiday party sponsorship: We will accept different types of sponsors from give-a-ways or the bar.
Certification: Amy Civilikas updated the board that 9/10/13 is the first study group meeting for the PHR/SPHR. We have 11 participants. Most participants found out through the NOVA/Dulles mentoring network and through email blasts.
September is approved for general HRCI credit.
Discussion Group: Wistaria Krigger informed the board that the September meeting was very well done, by Tim Kelly. 37 people signed up, 18 people attended, which makes a 48% attendance rate.
October meeting will be held at Jackson Lewis on 10/3, on “Mindfulness at Work”.
Legislative: Matt Nieman will be sending a flyer on the Day in the Beltway, to Cindy Snyder to post on social media.
SHRM Foundation: Katie Scullion updated the board that in August, we collected $30 for SHRM Foundation and $30 for Embry Rucker.
End of the year donations to Embry Rucker will go towards fixing cars to get to work for those in need.
All donations for the SHRM foundation need to be sent to SHRM National prior to 10/1 for them to count towards 2013 totals.
Diversity/Workforce Development: Joe Sherrier informed the board on Carolyn Bouldin behalf that the military outreach event prep on 2/27/2013 is going well. It will be held at COX Cable.
Carolyn Bouldin will look into a Wounded Warrior event that will have recertification credits and see if we can partner. We will be raffling off two tickets to this event at our 10/3 happy hour event. Mary Roome-Godbolt Would also like to send Carolyn Bouldin to the event to network on behalf of the board.
Students: Cassie Ferrari informed the board that she has received one request for the scholarship application. We will be pushing the deadline for applications back to 10/16.
We are hosting an event with Marymount. Sarah Bowman and Courtney Nicholson will be speaking at that event.
Communications: Cindy Snyder updated the board that the September newsletter is out and posted. September discussion meeting, chapter meeting and happy hour invites are out.
