ACONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR BERNARD HARMON OF THE TIMBERLAND HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING TEAM IN BERKELEY COUNTY FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM FOR WINNING THE CLASS A/AA INDIVIDUAL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to learn that wrestlerBernard Harmon of the Timberland High Schoolteamtook top honors at the state competition held at the Civic Center in Anderson on Saturday, March 1, 2014; and
Whereas, for the second consecutive year, Bernard Harmon of the Timberland Wolves’ wrestling team garnered the state trophy in the 170pound weight class; and
Whereas, in 2013, he became the first student in the school’s history to win a state championship in wrestling; and
Whereas, Bernard Harmon grapples with distinction in the classroom as well as on the mats, ranking ninth in his class academically, and he is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society; and
Whereas, a senior at Timberland, he volunteers in the Special Olympics and Upward Bound through Trident Technical College; and
Whereas, he has received academic offers from such institutions as Clemson University, the University of South Carolina, Francis Marion University, and the College of Charleston, and he hopes to study mechanical engineering at Clemson University; and
Whereas, in a sport that demandsmental fortitude and individual excellence, as well as stamina, strength, and strategy, Bernard Harmon has learned lessons thatwill prove invaluable through life both on and off the mats; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly appreciate the pride and recognition thatBernard Harmon has brought to his school and his communitythrough his noteworthy accomplishments and look to hear of his continued success in the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor Bernard Harmon of the Timberland High Schoolwrestling team in Berkeley County for an outstanding season and congratulate him for winning the Class A/AA IndividualState Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Bernard Harmon.
