New 11-12 Q1/Q2 Time Standard Events:
We are adding Q1 and Q2 time standards for 11-12 age group in the 1000y/800m and 1650y/1500m freestyle events. See the table below.
Background on these additions: The Central Zone voted to include these events at the end-of-summer 14u Zone Championship Meets, starting in the summer of 2017,during the US Aquatic Sports convention back in September. The Technical Committee and MI swimming BoD have agreed to mirror this move at the LSC level. Our hope is that more opportunities for distance racing will follow.
New 12u State Meet Order of Events:
To accommodate the 11-12 distance events at 2017 12u State Championships (both SCY and LCM), we have changed the order of events. Please see the table below.
There will only be one 11-12 distance race per gender offered at the 12u State Meets. They will then alternate from season to season as follows: 2017 SCY girls 1650/boys 1000; 2017 LCM girls 800/boys 1500; 2018 SCY girls 1000/boys 1650, 2018 LCM girls 1500/boys 800; etc. Swimmers will be able to qualify for the offered distance race with a Q1 time in either distance.
Junior Olympic Opportunity for the new 11-12 Distance Races:
At the Junior Olympics, 11-12 athletes will be able to race the new distance race offered for their gender during the Friday evening session, provided they have achieved the Q2 time in either the 1000 or 1650 or if they have achieved a Q1 time in the 500 free.
2017 LCM Standards:
2017 LCM Standards have been approved by the MI Board of Directors. The major change is to the SCY standards for the LCM State Meets. The SCY qualifying times for the LCM State Meet have been changed to match the SCY standards for the SCY State Meet. (If you qualify for the State Meet in March, you now have also achieved the State Meet standard for that age group in July.) These will be added to the MI Swimming website soon.
2017 SCY 13-14/Open State Meet Format:
As confirmation, the 2017 SCY 13-14/Open State Meet will follow the same format at the 2016 LCM State Meet. See the table below for the order of events.
