PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
The Offender Development Officer serves as a primary provider of interventions by delivering the Centre Programs Plan to appropriate offenders. Through the provision of counselling services, the Offender Development Officer also provides support to staff and offenders.
1.0DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.1Serves under the direct supervision of the Offender Services Coordinator for the provision of counselling and program delivery.
1.2Prepare and facilitate offender programs according to program guidelines, what works principles and the Centre Programs Plan. Programs include AOD, cognitive behavioural and lifestyle courses conducted in group sessions.
1.3Ensure appropriate follow up work is completed after the conclusion of each session/program, ensuring documents, reports and data are maintained and recorded in accordance with Departmental and GEO policy.
1.4Ensure that relevant assessments are conducted according to program readiness guidelines and Departmental policy.
1.5Participates in the case management/placement process by formulating case plans and being a member of the Case Management Team.
1.6Serve as an expert, trainer and resource for Case Officers and other relevant staff, on offender programs and ensures effective systems are established and maintained to review and monitor offender progress and program efficacy.
1.7 Participate in the offender induction program as required.
1.8Provide individual counselling, specialty group counselling and crisis intervention counselling to offenders as required.
1.9Adhere to all procedures/policies associated with the employer’s obligations under the WHSOH&S Act 201100 including responsibilities such as the health, safety and welfare of subordinates, offenders, contractors and visitors under the employee’s supervision.
2.0KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
2.1A qualification and/or equivalent experience in social work, psychology or related social science/welfare fields.
2.2Sound knowledge of contemporary community issues and matters that effect offender rehabilitation programs.
2.3Demonstrated experience in the delivery of therapeutic programs.
2.4 Well developed interpersonal, communication, assertiveness and conflict resolution skills.
2.5 Maintain a continuing satisfactory security clearance as approved by the Commissioner of NSW Department of Corrective Services NSW.
2.6 Ability to work in a correctional environment that involves direct contact with offenders.
