Ethical Responsibilities

Young @ Heart Statement on Ethics

Young @ Heart has a primary responsibility to ethically represent the people and communities involved in the film. Ethical conduct is guided by the following obligations:

1.) Honesty; in the representation of the people and communities involved in the Young @ Heart film.

2.) Building relationships that are based on the informed consent, rights of privacy and confidentiality, and the mutual respect of the cast of Young @ Heart.

3.) Actively consulting with the cast to ensure that a truthful representation is presented.

4.) Respect to other cultures and individuals ethical values.

5.) Awareness and respect to the ownerships of recorded material, photographs, or other documentations that are used in the film.

Young @ Heart will do everything in their power to ensure the safety, privacy, and dignity of the people being represented in the film. This representation involves a long-term commitment to the rights and concerns of the cast.

Young @ Heart will determine if the members of the cast want to remain anonymous or receive recognition in advance. The implications and possible outcomes of their choices will also be identified in advance.

Young @ Heart will acquire the informed consent of the members of the cast, individuals that provided information, and individuals that own materials used in advance. Consent will vary depending on the nature of the situation. Consent will be obtained through writing documentation and verbal dialogue.

Young @ Heart will respect the ethical obligations of the project and build relationships that adhere to the informed consent of the individual in a careful and respectful manner.

Young @ Heart will not exploit the individuals, groups, communities or cultures represented in the film. The cast will be actively involved in the editing of the film to ensure their approval of released material.

Young @ Heart also has a responsibility to scholarly research and science.

Young @ Heart must address potential ethical issues that can occur in advance. As well as making sound ethical decision’s when dilemmas and conflicts are encountered.

Young @ Heart bears all responsibility for the project. Young @ Heart will not knowingly deceive or misrepresent the scholarly or scientific research observed. The results found will be utilized in an ethical fashion.

Young @ Heart will do all that is in their power to preserve the future opportunities for fieldwork in the study of similar fields. The data will also be available for purposes of research.

The results of the research conducted in Young @ Heart will be available to the public, sponsors, students, decision makers, and other non-anthropologists. Young @ Heart ensures that the information presented is truthful and accepts all responsibility for the factual content and social and political implications that are expressed.

Reggae in the Valley Statement on Ethics

The research conducted in the study of Reggae music in the Pioneer Value will represent the people and communities involved in an ethical and truthful manner.

The fieldwork used to investigate Reggae in the Valley will follow ethical obligations and responsibilities. These responsibilities and obligations include:

1.) Honesty; in the representation of the people and communities involved in the research and documentation of Reggae in the Pioneer Valley.

2.) Informed consent, rights of privacy and confidentiality, and mutual respect of the individual will be the bases for constructing relationships.

3.) I will actively talk and consult with the people and communities involved.

4.) I will respect the different cultures and individual values of the people and communities involved in the research.

5.) The ownership of recorded material, music, photography and any other documented material will be respected and must be approved by the people and communities involved in advance.

The dignity, privacy and safety of individuals, groups and communities involved will be a priority in the research of Reggae in the Valley.

The people involved will be asked in advance if they want to be anonymous or receive recognition for their part in the research. These people will also be asked in advance if they want to use their real name or an alias.

The consent of individuals and groups that are involved in the research will be provided in advance to the research. The consent must be approved by the artist and will vary on the situation. Consent will be obtained through verbal and writing recognition.

The ethical obligations will be respected and relationships will be created based off of the ethical responsibilities to protect the privacy, dignity, and safety of the individuals and communities involved.

The individuals, groups, and communities researched will not be exploited and will be actively involved in the selection of content for the final piece.
