DETAIL:The San Francisco Giants will host the 7th Annual Giants Night for Make-A-Wish for local wish children. Festivities include a pre-game pizza party, and the opportunity to meet Lou Seal and some Giants players. On hand will be SF Giants Rich Aurilia and Kevin Frandsen, both strong supporters of Make-A-Wish, for a meet-and-greet with the children. After the private VIP get-together, all of the families will be invited to stay for the game against the Washington Nationals.

The San Francisco Giants have been longtime supporters of Make-A-Wish, both as a team and as individual players, by helping to grant the special wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. As far back as 1998 S.F. Giants Robb Nen and Rich Aurilia began raising money for the organization. In 2001, Aurilia and Nen sponsored the 1st Annual Giants Night for Make-A-Wish, when they held a pre-game party and personally purchased game tickets for forty wish families to attend a home game. Since then, the Giants took over the tradition of this popular event and now donate the evening’s tickets to the wish families.

“We are very grateful for all the support the San Francisco Giants organization has given us over the years,” said Patricia Wilson, Executive Director of the Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation. “From granting wishes and providing complimentary tickets to wish families throughout the summer to the individual monetary support from so many of the ball players, the Giants have been there for us for over ten years.”

ABOUT THE GREATER BAY AREA MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION:

The Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. In 2008 the Foundation celebrates 24 years of fulfilling magical wishes. One of the largest chapters nationwide, it has granted over 4,700 wishes in its 17 Northern California counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, Mendocino, Napa, Marin, Monterey, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, Siskiyou, Solano and Sonoma. The goal of the Foundation is to grant a wish to every eligible child in its 17-county territory. Anyone can refer a child for a wish.In 2005, the Chapter was recognized with a coveted “Best in America Seal of Excellence” award, the first Make-A-Wish Chapter to achieve this distinction for its outstanding management and governance practices. Of the 1,000,000 charities operating in the United States today, it is estimated that fewer than 50,000, or 5 percent, meet or exceed these standards, and, of those, fewer than 2,000 have been awarded this Seal.
