President’s Day 2016

Celebrating the Tales & Trails of the Tillingbourne Valley

Sunday 11th September 2016

President’s private home on the top of Leith Hill at 5.30pm- 9.30pm

President’s Day is one of the most popular events in the Surrey Hills calendar. Every year our President, Neil Maltby, organises a special “window” onto the Surrey Hills. This year Neil and his wife Jane are welcoming us all to their very special home on the top of Leith Hill, with outstanding views for you to enjoy.

You will be welcomed with an aperitif, hopefully to enjoy a late summer evening taking in the views south over the Surrey Hills and on to Sussex. Throughout the evening we will be discovering the work that has been done over 2016 on the Heritage Lottery funded, Tales & Trails of the Tillingbourne. Come and listen to our professional story teller, view the puppet characters created by local artists, based on real people from the history of the Valley, and discover the amazing work the Yvonne Arnaud Youth Theatre have been doing with locals schools.

A sit down at tables, picnic meal, specially created by local chef Christian Armstrong (formerly chef at The Parrot in Forest Green) is included in the price and will be served in a large marquee in the garden. This includes a pudding and coffee and chocolates at the end of the evening.

We will be joined by the Mayor of Guildford, Gordon Jackson and the Chairman of Mole Valley District Council, David Mir for this special evening celebrating this special project. Gordon and David have both kindly nominated the Surrey Hills Trust Fund as one of their chosen charities. We will be running a special, local Surrey Hills produce raffle to support them both in their fund raising efforts for the Surrey Hills AONB, so do bring your wallets with you to get your hands on some special Surrey Hills treats.

Complimentary drink will be available when you arrive. Please bring your own alcohol/drink and glass to have with your meal.

Smart casual clothing bearing in mind that the temperature will drop considerably during the evening. The car park is a short walk from the house so sensible shoes are recommended, and a raincoat if rain is forecast.

The event is not designed for children but would be suitable for all family members to attend.

The event is not suitable for dogs.

There are some access issues so the event is not suitable for wheelchairs but is suitable for mobile impaired. Please call Chris Howard on 07879841000 to discuss practicalities.

The cost will be £18.00/member (£20.00/non-member), which will include aperitif, picnic meal, desert, coffee and chocolates and entertainment from the storyteller and Yvonne Arnaud Youth Theatre.

Booking is essential. If you would like to join us would you please complete and return the attached slip to arrive at Warren Farm Barns before Monday 5th September.

Please include your e-mail address or a stamped addressed envelope so you may be sent full details, directions and locations for the visit.
