SUMMARY: Assist the building principal with instructional leadership to staff including: curriculum planning, review and implementation; and professional development. Assist in day-to-day building administration and the safety and welfare of students, staff and activities. Helps ensure a safe, pleasant and effective educational atmosphere, provides discipline as necessary and enforces school policy.
Essential Duties:
1. Administer a system of student accounting as directed by the principal.
2. Work with principal and staff to develop positive program for student behavior management.
3. Assist the building principal in developing, maintaining, and evaluating a curriculum program which meets the needs of the student body and is consistent with the system goals and objectives.
4. Assist the principal, when called upon, in the identification and selection of school certified and classified personnel.
5. Assist the principal in the assignment, supervision and evaluation of school certified and classified personnel.
6. Assist the principal in budget recommendations and the supervision of budget allocations.
7. Assist the principal in scheduling and administering various school functions and activities.
8. Maintain inventories, processes orders and provides for distribution of materials and general supplies.
9. Prepare and submit all required local, state, regional and national reports.
10. Provide assistance and direction of student teachers placed in the building.
11. Assist the principal in maintaining adequate educational records of children in accordance with prescribed procedures.
12. Assist the principal in supervising the collection and deposit of the Funds in accordance with established policies and procedures.
13. Recommend to the principal any necessary maintenance projects of the plant facilities that will help provide for an appropriate environment and safety standards.
14. Assist the principal in the general administration of the school and serves as the building administrator in the absence of the principal.
15. Demonstrate the ability to work harmoniously with all persons with whom he or she comes in contact, both within the school family and in the community.
16. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or appropriate administrator.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Assists in managing employees in the elementary school and early childhood centers. Assists in the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.
Assists in carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and/or Experience:
Master’s Degree in Education, minimum 5 years elementary or middle school teaching and/or administrative experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid Teaching Certificate. Elementary or Middle School Endorsement or Specific Course work related to Elementary or Middle Schools or valid administrative certificate.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific fields. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
