In the run up to Olympic and Paralympics Games, Essex Small Arts Grants Scheme is changing its criteria.

From 31st October 2010 until 31st March 2012 our small grants scheme will award funding which enables Essex County Council to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This will create a Big Event that will leave a lasting legacy for arts, heritage and culture.

The Big Event - Essex May to July 2012

Essex will host the Mountain Biking event in HadleighCountryPark, as part of London 2012. The Big Event, inspired by the Cultural Olympiad, will be a flamboyant county wide spectacle, engaging over 150,000 people and culminating in a large scale pyrotechnic performance in HylandsPark on 21 July 2012.

Walk the Plank, ( a highly experienced outdoor performance and pyrotechnic company and will be designing and orchestrating The Big Event. Walk the Plank have worked previously on EASTmeetsWEST which launched the Essex-Jiangsu Festival in 2008 and the Essex contribution to the Cultural Olympiad.

The Big Event will be delivered by Essex County Council Arts Development and 2012 Legacy Teams, Chelmsford Borough Council Cultural Events Team, Local Authorities, Businesses and Communities across Essex.

We will be looking for applications that can be part of the Big Event – it is vital that you read the new guidelines.

Why Are We Changing the Guidelines?

  • Our aim is to ensure that arts activity happens across Essex in 2012 and the Small Grant Scheme will enable everyone to benefit from the 2012 celebrations
  • Develop a strategic approach to 2012 in the current economic climate
  • Arts Development is committed to ensuringa legacy from London 2012 for Essex
