Tools: Each student will have a tourniquet to show the ability of applying the tourniquet.
Time Required: 35-40 minutes
OBJECTIVE:Given a Combat Application Tourniquet, perform the proper technique in applying the tourniquet to a hemorrhaging arm wound both individual and buddy aid with 100% accuracy.
Students will willingly apply the tourniquet to ensure all bleeding has stopped.
STEPS:
- Route the red band underneath the limb and pass the red tip through the inside slit of the buckle. Pull the band tight.
- Pull the band very tight and securely fasten the band back on itself. When the band is pulled tight, no more than three (????) will fit between the band and limb.
- Twist the rod until bright RED bleeding has stopped and a pulse has been eliminated.
- Place the rod inside the clip locking it in place. Re-check for bleeding.

- The United States militaries number one reason for deaths in Afghanistan was not service members being shot, but the service member bleeding out. It takes an average of less than two minutes for some to pass away. Today you will learn the proper way to apply a tourniquet and save the lives of those in need. Are you up for the challenge?
- Today I will explain each step in applying a Combat Application Tourniquet. I will demonstrate the proper application. You the students will then have two trial runs to practice the application in order to be successful in this course. You will be given a Combat Application Tourniquet, perform the proper technique in applying the tourniquet to a hemorrhaging arm wound both individual and buddy aid with 100% accuracy.

- Remind students that the only way the tourniquet will be successful is by proper placement and the tourniquet itself
- Accurate Placement of the Tourniquet, windless rod and velcro latch is imperative to have 100% score!

Use this operation sheet to aid you in following the correct steps when applying the tourniquet to yourself or a buddy. Take this lesson seriously you will never know when you might have to use the live saving technique in a real world scenario.
Materials Needed:
- Tourniquet
1.Route the red band underneath the limb and pass the red tip through the inside slit of the buckle. Pull the band tight.
2.Pull the band very tight and securely fasten the band back on itself. When the band is pulled tight, no more than three will fit between the band and limb.
3.Twist the rod until bright RED bleeding has stopped and a pulse has been eliminated.
4. Place the rod inside the clip locking it in place. Re-check for bleeding.
