MINUTEMEN SOCCER BOOSTER CLUB: 2017 - 2018

Dear Soccer Parent:

The Minutemen Soccer Booster Club (MSBC) would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our organization. We are a group of volunteers whose sole purpose is to support our Washington Township High School Boys soccer players. All player’s parents are considered members and meetings are open to all members.

The MSBCs many activities include organizing teams in the Gloucester County Summer Soccer League (GCSSL), the annual Soccer Banquet, Senior Night, and providing Senior Scholarship awards. We also support the teams with luncheons when they qualify for State Games.

We start the season with a BBQ at Washington Lake Park after the teams are selected. Here, we will explain team dues, what fundraisers will be planned and discuss important dates. It is expected that all families pay team dues and participate in all MSBC organized fundraisers.

The MSBC is totally independent from the coaching staff. While the MSBC seeks to coordinate certain activities with the coaching staff, we are NOT involved or consulted in decisions that concern team rosters or schedules.

Summer activities include:

·  GCSSL Summer Soccer League (June 22 – August 6, 2017): The MSBC will have 2 Varsity and 2 JV/Freshman teams partake in the GCSSL. This is an optional league for players. Teams play 2 days/week for 6 weeks on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays at fields on both New Street and South Delsea Park in Glassboro and at Total Turf in Mantua. Varsity games are 11v11 and JV/Freshman games 8v8. This is also a great opportunity for the boys to get to know each other. The cost is $89.00 per player with checks payable to GCSSL. Mail payment and forms to Jennie Minnick, 10 Indian Birch Road, Turnersville, NJ 08012. Forms are due to Jennie by 5/19/17.

·  Captain’s Practice: Senior leadership has traditionally been encouraged through the organization of Captain’s Practices over the summer months. There is NO obligation for players to participate in these sessions, but they are a good way to get in shape for the fall season as well as to get to know other players prior to their freshman year. Practices will start on July 6th and will be 2 days a week – Tuesdays and Thursdays.

·  Summer Camp (July 24 – July 28, 2017): WTPR sponsors a High School Boys Soccer Camp, which is run through Washington Township Parks & Recreation. This is not a mandatory camp, but another great way for freshman to get to know other players and coaches from the area. You must register with Parks & Recreation directly. More details will be forthcoming.

·  Physicals: All students wishing to participate in Fall Sports must have a physical. The required forms are available on the Soccer e-Board via www.wtps.org. The forms are due in the 11/12 Athletic Office by August 1, 2017. No student will be permitted to try outs without these completed forms.

·  Tryouts: Tryouts for the Boys High School Soccer Team will be August 14 - 17. After the teams are selected, practice will be daily, except Sundays, until school begins. After that time, teams will practice daily after school and on Saturday mornings.

·  Schedules & Soccer e-Board: Game schedules can be viewed through the link on the Soccer e-Board. To access all information needed on the Soccer e-Board, go to www.wtps.org. Click on ‘High School’, then go to ‘Sports e-Boards’. Under ‘Boys Soccer’, you will find all necessary forms and information.
