Andre Cobbs, Sr. is certainly a basketball veteran! Of the 35 years in playing the sport, 31 have been committed to professional basketball in which Andre brought stamina, skill, and expertise into every team he was a part of. Experience in various leagues has helped shape Andre into the expert Coach he is today. With his dedication and love of the sport, Andre is an asset to any team he belongs to. Not only does he contribute strength and conditioning to a team’s physical attributes, but he also brings determination and a strong discipline to its mental capacities as well. The reason he understands the cohesive connection between the physical body and the mental condition so well is attributed to his many years as a basketball player and coach.

It was at Lynwood High School located in Lynwood, California that Andre’s natural talent in basketball flourished. He was a part of the 32:1 championship team.

Andre’s experience in basketball expanded when in 1979 he joined the U.S. Marine Corp. Being on the U.S. Marine Corp basketball team, Andre had the exclusive opportunity to participate in the Armed Forces tournament. At the tournament, he was selected as one of the twelve best basketball players in all four branches of the military. This twelve ultimately became the elite team of the Armed Forces known as the Schism Team which played all over the world in countries like Spain, Italy, Japan, Korea, and many, many more. Coach Bob Klappinburg, the assistant coach for the Seattle Super Sonics at the time, shaped this team into perfection and brought the Schism Team to the Pan-American games in 1982.

From 1983 to 2000, Andre has been a basketball player in the most elite Pro-am and Pro-league teams. He has exhibited his skills in the Joe Wheatley Summer Pro-Am, in the Loyola Marymount Summer Pro-League, and with the CBA’s Lacrosse Bobcats as well. In addition to being on the Schism team, Andre’s greatest accomplishment was playing for the NBA on the Atlanta Hawks Summer Pro-league Team in the Atlanta Classics in 1985.

After reaching his highest pinnacle in basketball, Andre took his expertise and natural talents to a higher level and began coaching in 1988. His ability to train the body and mind, his skillful tactics in motivation, and his consistent sense of professionalism has earned him the opportunity to work as assistant and head coach for teams in the ABA, IBL, WCBL, and other prominent basketball leagues. In his coaching career, Andre is most proud about making history as the only team to win a three-time championship at the Long Beach Summer Pro-league. Last year, he was awarded Co Executive of the Year of the WCBL.
