About Joule

Joule has pioneered a CO2-to-fuel production platform, effectively reversing combustion through the use of solar energy. The company’s platform applies engineered catalysts to continuously convert waste CO2directly into renewable fuels such as ethanol or hydrocarbons for diesel, jet fuel and gasoline. Free of feedstock constraints and complex processing, Joule’s process can achieve unrivaled scalability, volumes and costs without the use of any agricultural land, fresh water or crops. Joule is privately held and has raised over $160 million in funding to date, led by Flagship Ventures. The company operates from Bedford, Massachusetts and The Hague, The Netherlands, with production operations in Hobbs, New Mexico. Additional information is available atwww.jouleunlimited.com.

Bioprocess Associate

Bioprocess Associate/ Plant Technician will be responsible for carrying out a variety of operations at Joule’s Hobbs, NM facility. Tasks include general operation and maintenance of outdoor bioreactors, following standard operating procedures, performing specific experimental work including sampling and culturing of bacteria. Much of the work will be done on smaller scale bioreactor units used for developmental and demonstration purposes. This person will be a part of the Hobbs team and will be conducting work to inform the development, design, and construction of larger scale bioreactor units. They will be expected to record data and observations in a clear and detailed manner.

Responsibilities

·  Set up and operate outdoor bioreactors including culture sampling and maintenance.

·  Perform clean in place (CIP) and sterilization protocols.

·  Read, understand, and execute standard operating procedures as well as experimental procedures.

·  Perform basic mechanical assembly of bioreactors and maintenance (the ability to “turn a wrench”).

·  Operation of pumps, heat exchangers, and other process equipment.

·  Proper sterile, “clean” sampling technique.

·  Basic microbiology techniques including plating and culturing of bacteria.

·  Record experiments and data in a clear and detailed manner.

·  Ability to use computer software including Excel, Word, and Power Point.

·  Speak with scientists and engineers to improve the design, development, and construction of bioreactor units.

·  Be well organized and keep their work space clean and presentable.

·  Work in a safe manner in plant setting.

Qualifications

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or related Engineering discipline and 0-2 years of relevant industrial experience. The position is interdisciplinary with basic understanding required of bioprocessing and biology. The position is very hands on and the candidate must have good mechanical aptitude (can turn a wrench) and needs to be self-motivated and able to work with little supervision. Basic microbiology lab techniques are necessary, but can be learned with minimal training. Effective verbal and written communication skills are a required given the need to continually exchange information with a variety of interdepartmental groups. The successful candidate will be energetic and excited about evaluating unproven technology.
