DANIEL PINK: ARTS ARE FUNDAMENTAL, NOT ORNAMENTAL

On June 8th, the Arts & Science Council (ASC) hosted Daniel Pink in the Knight Theatre, at the newly-named Levine Center for the Arts. More than 500 individuals joined his fascinating presentation on the importance of creative thinking and the unique value of the arts in helping young people develop critical right- and left-brain abilities necessary for leadership in a global economy.

So that we can all keep his important message of the arts as "fundamental, not ornamental,” ASC is pleased to share a special follow-up message from Dan. Please visit: http://www.wsbaccess.com/wsbinsights/insights.aspx?93808d53 to view Daniel Pink's video message on the value of arts integration in our educational systems, and as a critical component to a complete education.

The ASC also excited to launch a new web portal - http://www.ascartsintegration.org/ - developed to disseminate learnings from ASC's ArtStart Program, which has trained over 500 teachers in 97 Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools and provided artist residencies to 15,000 students. On this site, you'll find videos, lesson plans, tips and other information developed through the life of the program that provide a framework to help others integrate the arts in learning.

For a wealth of advocacy resources on how you can get more art into kids' lives, both in and out of school, visit Americans for the Arts: “The Arts. Ask for More” at: http://www.americansforthearts.org/public_awareness/. Please visit: http://www.danpink.com/ to follow Daniel Pink’s latest work online.
