COURSE NAME: Cultural Studies: An Introduction to Global Awareness (AS 2/3)

COURSE CREDIT: 1.0 Elective Credit when combined with Leadership & PT/Wellness. Successive completion of the Physical Training portion will satisfy the PE requirement for high school graduation. Course coverage is:

25% Global Awareness 25% Leadership 30% Uniform Wear 20% PT/Wellness

REQUIRED TEXT: Textbook: Cultural Studies: An Introduction to Global Awareness by Jones and Bartlett Publishers Canada 2010.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course introduces students to the world’s cultures through the study of world affairs, regional studies, and cultural awareness. The course delves into history, geography, religions, languages, culture, political systems, economics, social issues, environmental concerns, and human rights. Throughout the course, there are individual and group activities, technology enrichment, readings, review questions, video segments, and assessments to guide in the reinforcement of the material.

Uniform Requirements: All cadets will wear the Air Force blue uniform on designated wear days (usually Wednesday). Criteria for grading is in the KY-941 Cadet Guide.

METHOD of INSTRUCTION:

1.  Reading textbook and learning relevant Vocabulary words.

2.  Lecture, guided discussion, and team activities

3.  Videos supplied by HQ/AFJROTC

4.  Classroom Performance System supplied by HQ/AFJROTC. An interactive teaching device …all students have a personal “clicker” to respond to questions.

AEROSPACE SCIENCE GRADING PROCEDURES:

1.  Textbook/CPS questions: cadets are graded on correct answers per chapter

2.  Quizzes: 100 points (multiple choice, fill in the blank, True/False)

3.  Project: Report on any famous person 100 points

4.  Mid-term exam: 100 points

5.  Final Exam: 100 points

6.  Extra Credit: Crossword puzzles and Word Find exercises.

MAKE-UP ASSIGNMENTS: Cadets returning from an absence are required to present school admittance slip. Cadets may make-up any assignments for full credit if it was an excused absence. Cadets will not receive full credit for work missed during an unexcused absence.

GRADING SCALE for SCOTT COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL:

A 100-92 B 91-84 C 83-76 D 75-68 F 67 and below
