RACE 1 – WAIONA PACE DIVISION ONE – 2090 METRES
Pre race swab samples were taken from BRIDESTAR and COOKED BOOKS.
SHINANOS PRIDE, which had not raced since 29th August 2011, underwent a pre race veterinary examination and was passed to fit to start.
The start of this event was delayed by two minutes due to an interstate thoroughbred race running behind schedule.
ABOYCALLEDSU broke in the score up and then hung out in the score up before being in position at the start. ABOYCALLSU then raced roughly shortly after the start. Connections have been advised that the gelding has been placed on its last chance in the draw in future mobile start events.
RORYBEEBELLOWS tired from the 400 metres to be beaten 63.4 metres. Connections have been advised that the gelding has been placed on its last chance to race truly.
RACE 2 – FOLSOM BLUES STAKES DIVISION TWO – 2090 METRES
Pre race swab samples were taken from BROOKEFIELD LAD and REALLYIMATERMINATA.
SPEEDMAKER, which had not raced since 11th November 2012, underwent a pre race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.
OUR BOY MACH broke on two occasions in the score up before being out of position at the start. Connections have been advised that the gelding has been placed outside the draw in future mobile start events.
OUR BOY MACH then pulled hard whilst racing in the one out line during the event.
BILLY KHAN, which sat outside the leader, pulled hard throughout the event.
SPEEDMAKER pulled hard in the middle stages of the event.
ZOOMBA and REALLYIMATERMINATA were out of position at the start. Drivers Ricky Duggan (ZOOMBA) and Gareth Rattray (REALLYIMATERMINATA) were issued with reprimands under the provisions of rule AR 162(1)(j) in that they were in position at the candy pole but failed to maintain position at the start.
Despite the efforts of driver Adrian Duggan GRINABLE NZ was out of position at the start. Connections were advised that the gelding has been placed on its last chance in the draw.
RACE 3 – ANGUS MCGREGOR STAKES – 2090 METRES
Pre race swab samples were taken from FEELIN BETTOR and MODERN HITCH.
GOOD BEGINNINGS pulled hard whilst racing on the peg line during the event.
GOOD BEGINNINGS and PEACE CORPS NZ jostled shortly after entering the home straight on the final occasion.
Driver Dylan Ford (GOOD BEGINNINGS) was reminded of his obligations when shifting horses racing to his outside over the concluding stages.
Driver David Murphy(MODERN HITCH) was fined the sum of $100 for exceeding the minimum sectional time of 65 seconds for the first half of the last mile.After a lead time of 35.7, which is 0.4 seconds faster than normal the first and second quarters were run in 34.4 and 31.6 respectively, which is one second outside the required time.
RACE 4 – YAKUZA STAKES DIVISION ONE – 2090 METRES
Pre race swab samples were taken from BETA BOLT and BLUE POINTER.
Trainer of BETTOR BOLT, Paul Medhurst was fined the sum of $50 for a late driver notification pursuant to AR 210.
There were no racing incidents during the running of this event.
RACE 5 – SIMPLY ELECTRIC PACE DIVISION TWO – 2090 METRES
Pre race swab samples were taken from MY GREEK MATE, THE ADRIATIC NZ and GOSH HEZA REBEL NZ.
THE MAJORITY NZ broke as the field was released. Connections have been advised that the gelding has been placed outside the draw in future mobile start events.
THE MAJORITY NZ pulled hard from the 1200 metres when racing outside the leader.
RACE 6 – SMITHAWARDS HOBART PACING CUP FINAL – 3060 METRES
Pre race swab samples were taken from RUN RIPALONG NZ, SKY TOWER, SPOT NINE, UDOIT, AMADMANCOMESUNDONE and LATERRON.
AMADMANCOMESUNDONE was fractious before the start before galloping out. Connections have been advised that the gelding has been placed on its last chance in the draw in future standing start events.
AMADMANCOMESUNDONE tired from the 600 metres and finished distanced. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities. Driver David Murphy explained that the horse was fractious before the start then galloped out and was difficult to get back into his gait. Mr Murphy further explained that in his view the horse was disappointing and after tacking onto the tail of the field was unable to improve before tiring over the concluding stages. Trainer Craig Knowles advised that he would be taking blood samples from the horse following the event and will advise stewards of any abnormalities. AMADMANCOMESUNDONE has been stood down from racing for a period of 10 days and until the completion of a satisfactory trial.
RUN RIPALONG NZ raced rough after the start.
WATCHMEFELLA galloped out and has been placed outside the draw in future standing start events.
UDOIT galloped out and will continue to be place outside the draw in future standing start events.
UDOIT pulled hard after tacking on to the body of the field.
WATCHMEFELLA was held up for clear racing room racing off the back straight on the final occasion.
Post race swab samples were taken from SPOT NINE and WATCHMEFELLA, the winner of the event and second place getter respectively.
RACE 7 – MAGUANE MOBILE – 2090 METRES
Pre race swab samples were taken from VIEW STREET and HERES YOUR CHOCKY.
ISLAND DISCO hung out at various stages of the event
Racing towards the 500 metre mark ISLAND DISCO hung out despite the efforts of driver Nathan Ford and as a result MES ELSU was inconvenienced and SCRUFFY JAKE was able to obtain an inside run. ISLAND DISCO has been placed on its last chance to race truly.
BOLTNMACH was held up for clear racing room rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
Stewards queried driver Shaun Kennedy(Guy’s Delight) as to the reasons the mare raced three wide. Mr Kennedy stated that in his view the mare races best when evenly rated and with this in mind he began well and looked to go forward to attempt to get a position outside the leader. When it became apparent that he couldn’t get this position he then attempted to restrain to the rear. At this time the pace slackened and the mare began to pull and he was unable to restrain. Mr. Kennedy then was of the view that his only option was to sit three wide and rate his mare so as not to apply any pressure. The mare then tired from the 600 metre mark and was beaten 52.5 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Stewards noted Mr Kennedy’s explanation and also took into account the mare’s racing manners.
RACE 8 – SEW EURODRIVE 3YO FILLIES – 2090 METRES
BARYNYA pulled hard in the score up and then pulled hard throughout the event.
ITSWHATILIKEABOUTU was out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events.
Racing in the back straight on the first occasion BELLICIOUSLIPS, which was racing outside the leader, restrained and as a result BARYNYA which was racing fiercely on the back of MISS GUENEVERE contacted the sulky of MISS GUENEVERE which then carried a flat tyre for the remainder of the event. HOTLIKEASUNRISE was also inconvenienced as BARYNYA had to check off of MISS GUENEVERE.
Rounding the home turn HOTLIKEASUNRISE broke down and was immediately pulled up by driver Ricky Duggan. HOTLIKEASUNRISE was attended by the course veterinarian and was subsequently euthanized due to a fractured off hind pastern.
Driver Nathan Ford (ITSWHATILIKEABOUTU) was reminded of his obligations in relation to whip use when driving out over the concluding stages.
RACE 9 – BENEDICTION STAKES – 2090 METRES
Pre race swab samples were taken from RESURGENT SPIRIT and RAMPLESTILTSKIN.
RACE 10 – TATTSBET TWO YEAR OLD – 1609 METRES
GIFTED COURAGE hung in and pulled in the score up.
Racing into the first turn GIFTED COURAGE hung in and as a result ALL STARZZZ MEGAN was restrained momentarily.
On the first turn BONGIORNO BOYS contacted a marker peg.
GENERAL
On Monday January 6th Stewards conducted an inquiry into an elevated TCO2 level which was detected in a blood sample taken from THE MAJORITY NZ when that gelding was presented to race in the LEE’S ORCHARD PACE at Launceston Pacing Club on the 17th November 2013.
After taking evidence from Mr Dwyer and an analyst from Racing Analytical Services Limited, Stewards issued a charge to trainer Matthew Dwyer under AR 190(1) which states that a horse shall be presented for a race free of prohibited substances. The particulars of the charge were that Mr Dwyer presented THE MAJORITY NZ to race at Launceston Pacing Club on the 17th of November and a blood sample taken was found, upon analysis, to have a TCO2 level in excess of the permitted level. Mr. Dwyer pleaded guilty to the charge.
Mr Dwyer then made a submission in relation to penalty. In determining penalty Stewards considered the following:
- Mr Dwyers length of time as a trainer.
- That this is his first offence under this rule.
- The percentage of his income which is derived from Harness Racing.
- His guilty plea and co-operation during the inquiry.
- Personal circumstances.
Stewards also considered that any penalty imposed must act as a deterrent to other industry participants
Mr Dwyer’s trainer’s licence was disqualified for a period of four months commencing at midnight on 8th January 2014 and expiring at midnight on 8th May 2014. THE MAJORITY NZ was disqualified from its fourth place in the Lee’s Orchard Pace and the judge’s numbers were amended accordingly.
