Unit 3: Teknimedia

WELCOME to Teknimedia! This program will teach you the basics of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Knowledge of these programs is expected by both employers and educators. Please start with lesson 1 (even though you probably already know how to use a mouse!) You need to complete all 24 lessons to receive a Teknimedia Certificate of Completion.

There are 5 Teknimedia computers in the classroom. Write the number of the computer you are sitting at on your Computer Literacy Competency Menu. Once you are logged in as a User, you will need to use the same computer for Teknimedia each time you work on a lesson.

To get started:

1.  Double-Click on the icon for Teknimedia; It is a blue circle with the letters VLC in the center. It is located above the Recycle Bin on the lower left hand side of the computer screen.

2.  The Teknimedia Virtual Learning Center Box will appear.

3.  Click the New User button.

4.  The Register New User Box will appear.

5.  Enter your Name.

6.  For your User ID and Password:

---Your User ID will be your first name and the first letter of your last name TYPED ALL IN lowercase!)

For example: If your name was Jane Doe, your User ID would be: janed

---Your Password will be your User ID with the numbers 123 following it.

For example: If your name was Jane Doe, your Password would be: janed123

7.  Enter your User ID and Password.

8.  Click OK

9.  The Verify Password Box will appear.

10. Re-enter your password and click OK

11. The Choose an Activity Box will appear.

12. Click Courses

13. The Select Course Box will appear.

14. The first course: Mouse Tutorial - English MT is highlighted. Click OK.

(Remember you must start with this course to receive your certificate. If you know how to: move, click, double-click and drag a mouse, you can click the Section button in the top right corner of the screen to skip explanations. STOP at the EXERCISE Sections 5, 7, 9,& 11 and do the exercises. You must do the exercises to receive credit.

15. When you are finished the Mouse Tutorial - English MT course;

---To continue on with the next course:

-Click the Close Course button on the left side of the screen to return to the Choose an Activity Box.

-Click Courses.

-Click on the next course in the list to highlight it and click OK to continue.

---To stop for the day:

-Click the red Exit VLC button in the lower left corner.

16. When you return to Teknimedia, enter your User ID and Password and click OK.

17. The Choose an Activity Box will appear.

-Click Records to see where you left off. (If you remember what course you were working on last, you can skip this step)

18. Click the Red X Button to return to the Choose an Activity Box

-Click Courses

19. The Select Course Box will appear.

20. Click on the course you are working on (or the next course if you completed the previous course) to highlight it and click OK to continue.
