The Hong Kong Classic Cup

TheHong Kong Classic Cup has been run as a Hong Kong Group 1 race since the 2010/2011 racing season. As the second of the three major races for the Hong Kong four-year-old generation, the race is an important lead-up event for the HKG1 Hong Kong Derby. The first three horses to pass the winning post in the Hong Kong Classic Cup are given priority to start in the Hong Kong Derby. Since 2006 two Hong Kong Classic Cup victors have gone on to claim the Hong Kong Derby: Ambitious Dragon (2011) and Designs On Rome (2014). French jockeys have performed well in this 1800m event, having won seven of the past nine editions thanks to Gerald Mosse and Olivier Delouze winning three times apiece, and Maxime Guyon taking the honours in 2011. John Moore and John Size are the best performing trainers as each has won the race twice.
