CREATE – A – COUNTRY

The goal of this project is to help you understand the attributes of countries around the world. You will play the role of creator and colonizer for your country. Complete the five steps below separately, including all information listed for each step.

Step 1: Landforms

o  Draw an outline map showing the shape of your country.

o  Is your country an island or part of a continent?

o  Draw lines of longitude and latitude to show the location of your country.

(Remember to have your country in scale with the rest of the world.)

o  Label and indicate the different landforms of your country. (Minimum of six landforms)

Rivers Mountains Plain Peninsula

Deserts Oceans Island Delta

Plains Plateaus Strait Hills

Lakes Valleys Plateau Basin

Canyons Archipelago Isthmus Etc.

Step 2: Climate/ Natural Resources

o  Draw a climate map including at least three climate regions. (Make sure that the climate regions correspond to your landforms.)

o  On the back of your map, give a definition of the characteristics for each climate found in your country.

o  Include on your map the natural resources found in your country - with at least 4 different resources used. (Remember that your natural resources need to correspond with the landforms and the climates used on your map.)

Example: Oil, Natural Gas, Coal, Diamonds, Gold, Silver, Iron, Lumber, Etc.

Step 3: Political/Transportation

o  Draw a map with states or provinces for your country. (Minimum of four)

-Each state should have a capital city and it should be marked clearly.

-Also, include one national capital city.

o  Draw four additional cities in your country. Indicate the population size of your cities on the map. (Show the symbols for differing sizes on a key)

o  Include on your map the transportation routes between your cities.

Draw roads, highways, interstates, airports, water canals, etc.

(Show symbols on the key)

Step 4: Culture

o  Describe the culture, or way of life of the people who live in your country.

o  Type a paragraph (at least 5 sentences) indicating the following elements of culture:

Language Religion

Economic System Education

Holidays/Traditions Government

Clothing Recreation/Sports

Step 5: Country Symbols

o  Indicate the official name of your country.

o  Create a flag that represents your country.

- On the back of the flag, explain what the colors and symbols represent.

o  Create the following symbols:

- Motto - Anthem

- Pledge - Mascot (national animal)

Step 7: Travel Brochure (Extra Credit)

o  Create a brochure advertising travel to your country.

o  Describe in short paragraphs the following:

-  cultural elements (3)

-  physical features,

-  major cities

-  tourist attraction.

o  Include a small map of your country, the flag and at least two pictures.
