The handwriting HW page will come home on Tuesday and it is not due until Friday. This allows the children to practice forming the letters correctly in class before taking the homework home. They should be saying the procedure aloud while they form the letters on the homework. Continue to practice the formation and sounds throughout the week.

Reading:

We are beginning our Nonfiction unit.

This week, students will be introduced to a new genre study by examining the different types, looks, and structures of nonfiction texts. They will use their background knowledge and questions they have in order to enhance their understanding of topics found in nonfiction texts. They will explore the Table of Contents, Glossary, Index, bold print, headings, and captions in texts.

We will continue to build stamina by reading independently with our book bins and reading folders each day.

Your child will continue to exchanging books and bring home new books in his/her reading folder. Feel free to read them to your child if they are too difficult. As I meet with your child for guided reading, he/she will be bringing home books that we read together. This is very exciting and your child should reread these books at night to you.

Your child will get 2 new sight words this week too in his/her sight word folder. Practice daily.

Writing:

Last week we started drafting for our first book. Children selected a topic that interested them after generating ideas and discussing how writers write about what they know, special moments, and favorite things to do. We will continue drafting this week as they make a few pages for their book and then they will be introduced to revising and editing.

Math:

We will have our chapter 3 test on Monday and begin Chapter 4 this week. This week we will work on the numbers up to 10.

Please reinforce writing these numbers at home.

Show and Tell:

Show and tell this week. You child may bring an item from home that begins with the letter d or s.

Last Names A-L (You have Show and Tell on Tuesdays)

Last Names M-Z (You have Show and Tell onWednesdays)

See the Show and Tell page for the letters each week.

*Your child can chooseeitherletter for their show and tell item each week!

Star Student:

Harlow is our star of the week!! We can’t wait to see her poster on Monday! Mrs. Fortino, you may come in on Thursday to read a story to the class at 2:30.

Healthy Snack:

Please make sure you pack a SEPARATE snack in your child’s bookbag, even if you should buy lunch. We eat snack around 10:30 am.

Behavior:

Students are still trying to earn Brownie Points as a team and fill up their buckets on an individual basis. Please reinforce at home good behavior in class (sitting in his/her seat on the rug nicely, listening when someone is talking and showing respect.)

Handwriting:This week’s homework will be the letter d and s worksheet (both sides). Due Friday.

Reading:

**Review sounds learned so far: You say the sound, they give you the letter and vice versa.

t, b, i, o, u, c, m, n, a, g, f, d, s

Read each night!

Books will be on one side of their reading folder that they can read at night. Like I stated above, feel free to read aloud to your child. He/she can read any easier books or the guided reading books that we worked on together in class.

Their sight words will be on the other side. Please review those daily and move them to the “learned” side once your child knows them. This folder goes back and forth to school each day.

A math packet will come home daily. It contains the lesson completed in class and also a homework page and lesson review. Please use those extra pages for some fun practice, playing school, or review. They are not required to come back to school. Thank you!

Practice writing numbers 0-10.

Practice writing your name with the first letter being a capital letter and the rest lowercase.

Show & Tell:Bring in something that begins with the letter d or s.
