Hello and welcome to another semester at HCC! I’d like to introduce you briefly to our smart rooms, which many of you will encounter this term.

A smart room replaces the traditional audio visual equipment with their 21st century counterparts; gone is the TV, VCR, and overhead projector. In Its place you’ll find a ceiling mounted digital projector, document camera, DVD / VHS combo, PC and easy to use controls.

I recommend reading through these pages to familiarize yourself with the equipment and to check out your room before classes start. It’s very user friendly, but should you encounter any problems or would like a training on the equipment, please don’t hesitate to call me at the number above.

Please note that while you are welcome to load your files and presentations onto the computers in the classroom, HCC and the AV department cannot be held responsible for them. So please make sure your materials are backed up on CDROM, USB memory stick or another method. Our campus bookstore sells USB memory sticks for your convenience.

To log into the computer, you will need your HCC email user name and password. This is separate from your Hawknet user name and email. Your HCC email ends with @hccfl.edu and can be accessed through our webpage can log into the class room computer by enterin your HCC user name, password and by selecting the “Family” domain at the login screen on the classroom computer.

If you do not have one, you will not be able to access the computer. If you do not have an HCC email, please see your Dean’s assistant for help. If you have one, but experience problems logging in, please contact the help desk @ 253-7000 x 4357 as they are the only ones who can assist you with log in issues.

Thank you and I hope everyone has a great semester at HCC Brandon!

Tips and Help

Our smart rooms have two different desks. They both are the same in terms of equipment and function.

Desk 1

The monitor on this desk is located under a panel on the left hand side of the desk. If it is closed, simply lift the panel from the front. The power switch is located on the bottom rightof the monitor. The keyboard and mouse are on the sliding shelf to the left and below the monitor.

The equipment is stored is stored behind the door on the bottom right of the desk. Here you can see the DVD / VHS combo and the computer. If the computer is off, you will need to turn it on by pressing the power button located on the front of the computer.

Desk 2

On this desk the computer is located on the left, behind the door. The DVD / VHS combo is on a shelf above the right hand door, which does not open. The keyboard and mouse are located on a sliding shelf under the middle of the desk. The computer and monitor both turn on from power buttons located on the front of each.

USB / Power / NetworkPorts

On the control panel for both desks are two USB connections. These are located on the desktop so that you may use your USB memory sticks, PowerPoint remotes or other USB equipment with the computer. The power and network jack are for laptops, if you wish to use your own laptop.

Computer Logon and Logoff
