Computer Science Postdoctoral Fellow (Dr. Wa Xian Lab)

Job Description

Dr. Xian is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the passion and talent for establishing a bioinformatics framework for a new program of adult stem cells aimed at tackling some of the most devastating and unsolved inflammatory and proliferative diseases. In particular, the stem cell program is targeting airway inflammation including asthma and COPD, inflammatory bowel diseases, and highly metastatic epithelial cancers of the upper GI tract, bladder, and ovary using novel stem cell models enabled by technology developed by Xian and colleagues (e.g. Wang et al., 2015, Nature, 522, 173-178 and Zuo et al., 2015 Nature 517, 616-620). These advances in stem cell cloning technology are yielding remarkably instructive, patient-specific models of human diseases, robust approaches to regenerative medicine, and novel approaches to cancer stem cells and the vexing problem of chemotherapy resistance in cancer treatments and thus unique opportunities for bioinformatics specialists seeking to fundamentally alter the outcome of these diseases.

The successful candidate will have an in-depth knowledge and experience in High Throughput Sequence (HTS) data analysis (DNA Seq, mRNA Seq, ChIP Seq, micro RNA Seq, etc.), microarray data analysis, experimental design, data integration, algorithm development, development of sequence analysis tools (bioinformatics programming), evaluation of analytical tools and technology, and interfacing with biologist collaborators. The candidate is expected to be highly flexible, adaptable, and a proactive contributor. The candidate will have the opportunity to present the collaborative results at conferences and workshops, and in leading journals.

The ideal candidate with a proven track record of “omics” data analysis, independent collaborative work and leading contributions to a biomedical project.
