Title: Outreach Worker- Temporary until 31st March 2014 – will continue subject to funding

Location: Whitleigh & Southernway Children’s Centres, covering Whitleigh, Holly Park, Southway and Tamerton Foliot

Grade:Grade E (£20,858 - £22,958)

Hours:37hours per week

Accountable to:Children’s Centre Leader

Aims and Objectives

To carry out direct work with children 0-5 years and their families as appropriate in the Children’s Centre’s, Link Centre or outreach work including family homes when appropriate, with the aim to improve outcomes for children as outlined in the DFES SureStart guidance for Children’s Centres.

Duties and Responsibilities to include:

  1. To identify, set up and deliver services and activities for families and their children liaising and

discussing with colleagues and families. This will include activities in the Children’s Centres, family homes and outreach locations.

  1. To be an appropriate personal/professional role model for both children and families.
  1. To link families with the Children’s Centres activities, supporting them to attend and become

active in theirchildren’s nurturing and learning including new families.

  1. To promote opportunities for families to further develop knowledge and skills linked to the

Children’s Centres Core Offer national and local targets.

  1. To identify and plan activities to promote and encourage parental involvement in children’s

learning.

  1. To contribute to the identification and planning of the Centre programme and activities as

requiredby the Centre Leader.

  1. To plan appropriate programmes and activities to develop and promote self-esteem and

confidence in children and their families, which respond to and recognize the diverse and specific needs of families.

  1. To observe, assess and record children’s progress and development in line with Centre

policies, Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), SEN Code of Practice and Core Assessment when required.

  1. To contribute to inter-agency assessment of children and families (Common Assessment

Framework).

  1. To record accurately and appropriately, information on children and their families and the

services delivered.

  1. To contribute to the monitoring, assessment and evaluation of services and activities.
  1. To prepare accurate and effective reports and records related to the various activities of the

Centre and for case conferences/reviews as required.

  1. To actively participate in supervision, appraisals, team meetings, staff training and have a

commitment tocontinuing professional development.

  1. To contribute to, facilitate and deliver training/information services for parents/other adults as

required for the development of the Children’s Centres and the families who use it.

  1. To liaise and work in partnership with staff in other Children’s Centres and those across a

rangeof other agencies.

  1. To work in partnership with parents and carers ensuring that the health, safety and welfare of

all children and their families using the Children’sCentre is met, and that services respond appropriately and meaningfully to any issues relating to children, particularly those identified as in need or at risk of harm.

  1. To work with families to create an environment that is welcoming and accessible to all,

ensuring integration, sensitivity and positively promoting participation.

18. Any other duties directed by the Centre Leader which are deemed appropriate to the grading of the post.

Additional Information

The post holder must be flexible to work across various locations throughout the reach area of Whitleigh, Tamerton and Southway.

All applicants will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service(DBS) check (previously CRB), together with a check against the Children’s and Adult’s Barred List.
