Objectives
Students will:
- Know the causes of World War I including: Militarism, Nationalism, Imperialism, and Alliances and secret treaties
- Identify and relate the major individuals of early twentieth century politics
- Recount the changing nature of warfare and weapons technology and understand their effects and consequences for soldiers and domestic life after the war
- Reenact and develop an appreciation of trench warfare and life for the soldiers in the trenches
- Diagram the major military maneuvers and tactics to determine how the European theater became a stalemate
- Highlight the most significant turning point battles of the war
- Recall WWI’s impact on the non-Western world including: The Middle East, Africa, Asia
- Assess the impact of war on the human psyche (both in WWI and throughout the history of war)
- Critique the changing nature of art and relate its changes to the new face of the twentieth century
- Analyze the Treaty of Versailles, the struggle to ratify it, and its meaning for world politics in the twentieth century
