Note: This is a Sessional Faculty position until November 19, 2019.

Duties: Reporting to the Senior Manager, Counselling and Accessibility Services, the incumbent is responsible for providing disability counselling, learning strategies, and academic accommodations for students who have learning, physical and/or psychological disabilities. In order to recommend appropriate accommodations to meet the learning needs of students this position requires an in-depth understanding of disability documentation including psycho-educational assessments. Additional, duties include facilitation of the Bursary for Students with Disabilities, conducting workshops for students and staff; screening students with suspected learning disabilities, as well as participating in departmental team meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Disability Studies, Social Work, Special Education, or a related discipline required
  • Minimum 3 years recent, relevant experience
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience assisting students with disabilities in a post-secondary environment
  • Demonstrated expertise assisting and accommodating students with a wide range of disabilities and accessibility needs including: students with learning disabilities; mental health issues; students who are Deaf/hard of hearing, and students experiencing medical and mobility issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and strong interpersonal skills required
  • Commitment to working collaboratively to remove barriers and enhance the learning environment for students with disabilities in accordance with all legal and ethical requirements
  • Must have a strong commitment to providing quality professional services and a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
