Burney Cup - After 9 events Jamie Hutchinson has a commanding lead with 55 points followed by John Muddeman on 34 and Gareth Little on 32. Jamie is very keen to add his name to the Cup but there are still some points to be gained from the remaining races. The details are regularly updated on the Notts AC website. The Worksop Summer league race is to be added.

Mary Gash Shield - Catherine Charlton leads the chase with 49 points to add a new name to the Mary Gash Shield. An enthusiastic Laura Boulty is Catherine’s closest rival on 33 and is keen to take over should Catherine slip up. Details on website and Worksop Summer League to be added.

Notts AAA Summer league - After a disappointing turn out at Hexgreave Hall our senior men pulled out the stops at Holme Pierrepont and Wollaton Park. After 3 races Notts AC leads the senior men’s team with 463 followed by Erewash RC on 632 and Redhill RR on 641. We had a good turnout at Worksop scoring 134 which should keep us in pole position. Again Ben Livesey came home in 1st place with team support from Colin Palmer 10th, John Muddeman 14th, Jamie Hutchinson 32nd, Gareth Little 33rd and Pete Deacon 44th. I was very pleased that our younger men also provided backing to the team and that the more mature runners also made the trip to Worksop. Thanks to Julie Lambourne for collecting the disks on what was a great night for running 5m over undulating tarmac and forest track. Detailed results on Nottsaaa website.

The final race is organised by Sutton in Ashfield Harriers at Teversal Visitor centre on Wednesday 12 August 7.15pm. Please, please make the effort to be there and maintain our position as first men’s senior team. I apologise but have to remind you that last year we lost gold and silver medals on the night.

Very best wishes, keep training, and enjoy your running.

Ken Allen.

Notts 10 – Holme Pierrepont, June 12, 2015

One of the most exciting races in years also produced the closest finish in the 44 years history of the Notts 10 over the National Water Sports Centre course on Friday evening, June 12. A sprint finish over the final exhausting long straight saw Ben Livesey of the RAF and Notts AC edge out last year’s winner Toby Spencer, Coventry Godiva by just one second, with the winner recording 49:48, the fastest time since 1993. A group of five runners had broken away from the rest of the field after the first two miles on a warm windless night and run in heavy rain. Ben Fish of Blackburn Harriers and AC was third in 50:18 from previous winner Alastair Watson, Notts AC 50:32 and Debele Tasfaye, Leeds City AC 50:44, times that would have won the race in previous years. A total of 36 runners dipped under the one hour mark, a big improvement on several previous years.

Mark Dalkins, Cheadle RC was first over 40 in 52:37 from Rob Keal Notts AC 54:10 and Dave Tune, unattached 56:56. Stewart Gregory, Holme Pierrepont RC was first over 50 in 55:54 and Mike Quinn, Sheffield RC first over 60 in 65:14.

Jenny Spink, Bristol and West AC was rewarded for her journey to Nottingham by being first woman in 57:32 one of the fastest times recorded by a woman over the course. Nicola Squires, Hallamshire Harriers was second in 59:31, with Spink’s team mate Helen Sharpe just missing out on a sub-one hour run with 60:01. Jenny Blizard, Rotherham Harriers was first over 40 in 62:24 and Louise Blizzard, Belgrave Harriers first over 35 in 62:35, with former winner of the race, Nicki Nealon, Huncote Harriers AC first over 45 in 62:44.

This year’s race was over a slightly modified course and featured an inter-area match, which included the Armed Forces. The entry list of just over 400 runners was drawn from all parts of the country and chip timing was introduced for the first time.

Other Notts AC results were:

Stuart Spencer 55:18 Moritz Stoesslein 64:08

John Muddeman 57:23 Catherine Charlton 65:49

Jamie Fletcher 58:24 Joanne Finch 65:57

Gareth Little 61:16 Richard Mitson 75:11

James Hutchinson 61:34

Thanks for a highly successful event go not only to the race organiser Martin Whitehouse, Adrian Hall and Kirsty Marshall for administration, Aidan Jackson for the race commentary and Sam Mitchell for driving the lead car, but to the race officials, marshals and many helpers at the finish and around the course.

Notts AC Storm London – 26th April 2015

Notts AC returned to London on Sunday after competing in the London Marathon with their 2nd National title in three months. The day may have started damp but was soon to change as temperatures started to rise for the perfect race.

Aaron Scott and Stuart Spencer ran the first 30km together, both targeting a sub 2:20 time. The latter stages of the race took its toll and saw them both drift off the pace to record 2:20:45 and 2:21:25 respectively. Super Vet Rob Keal was the next back for the team and recorded a pb at the age of 40, clocking 2:25:44. This completed the team for the national championships and left Serpentine and Leeds to collect the silver and bronze medals.
Other Notts runners included Dr Tom Bailey 2:38:03 and Ben Douglas 2:42:02, both of whom painfully realised the importance of pacing the 26.2 miles course is a fine art. Not far behind saw Notts newest signing Jamie Fletcher 2:45:28 pacing the race to perfection, taking 10 minutes off his pb. Gareth Little 2:50:37 followed, with Pete Deacon 2:56:56 breaking the 3 hour barrier for the first time. Ultra distance man Moritz Stoesslein also made the 3 hour barrier to finish in 2:59:03 and Richard Mitson completed his first marathon in 3:37:35.
Joanne Finch and Lisa Deacon were the only ladies who ran for Notts AC on the day and ran together for the majority of the way finishing in 3:14:26 and 3:15:54 respectively.
Many of the above mentioned athletes will take a rest before their next major outing which will be the Notts 10 mile road race on the 12th June.

Martin Whitehouse

Could you send my congratulations to all those that took part in London Marathon today. Aaron may have been disappointed with his performance at 12 stage, but once again did Notts proud today. I actually saw him on tele!

All the best, Ian Fowlie

GO TEAM

We have also had ladies run in a number of other races during the last month or so and well done to you all. These have varied from trails to tough mudders!!! Congratulations also to the girls who competed in the Notts 10 – there were individual and county medals to various people.

Sorry for rushed newsletter – I just don’t know where time goes. However, as the results are showing, training is going well – keep up the hard work girls and you will continue to see the results.
