Nau mai, haere mai and welcome to Kapa Haka 2014.
Your child/children have expressed an interest in taking part in the school kapa haka roopu (group). To confirm you would like your child/children to participate please complete the form below and return to the office by Friday 9 May with the Kapa Haka fee of $10 per family/whanau.
The tutor of the group is Koro Tini who is an experienced performer at both regional and national levels. We welcome all parents/caregivers throughout the year to come in at any time and support the roopu. Practice is normally on Thursdays at 2pm but is confirmed in the school newsletter the day prior. We welcome all levels of experience - all that is needed is enthusiasm and commitment to attend and learn. All tamariki (child/children) are expected to behave appropriately during the practices. If they do not behave they will be asked to return to class.
The kapa haka roopu are called on to perform at various times throughout the year. If tamariki are required to perform out of school hours or off school grounds a notice will be sent home asking for your consent. Terms 1 and 2 are an opportunity for tamariki to learn basic kapa haka waiata (songs) and skills as well as an opportunity to extend last year’s learning. The Rotorua Primary School Ahurei (Festival) in November is the major event that the Roopu participates in. We are limited with the number that can participate in this event though and usually our older students are the ones given the opportunity to be involved in this.
