LADY BULLPUP VOLLEYBALL

Congratulations!!! We are so excited for the upcoming volleyball season!! Thank you for making a commitment, along with your teammates, to be the best player possible. Our goal is for each athlete to enter the gym and improve every single day. Together, we will learn and grow as individuals and more importantly, as a team.

Coaching philosophy:

·  Every girl can work hard and be coachable. Criticism is constructive, not personal.

·  Every girl can learn the correct fundamentals and foundational aspects of the game.

·  Every girl can have a good team-oriented attitude while working toward a personal level of excellence.

·  Every girl can be respectful to coaches, teachers, parents, teammates, officials and opponents.

·  When all of these things are in place, the wins will happen.

·  Coaching to win a game will be balanced with allowing girls playing time in game situations where they can be successful.

·  Playing time will not be equal. Some girls will play the whole time, others might get a few minutes, and some might not play at all.

·  What we do in practice will directly be reflected on the court each game. Therefore, practice must be as intense as a game would be in order to be productive.

·  Our team will play hard, win gracefully and will view any defeat as a learning experience.

·  Communication between coach and players is essential. Any injuries, illnesses, or personal issues should be communicated to the coaches prior to practice.

Nutrition:

Athletes should do everything they can to provide their body with the essential nutrients, energy, water and rest, needed to perform at maximum levels. At least 3 meals a day should be eaten. One ounce of water for every 2 pounds of body weight should be consumed daily.

Attendance:

Per UIL rules, you must be present more than ½ of the day on game day in order to be eligible to play. All practices are important. If your daughter misses a Tuesday or Wednesday practice, she will not play in the game on Thursday. If she misses a Friday or Monday practice, she will sit out the first set of the next week’s game for the first absence and an entire match the second absence. Practice is very important because we are constantly teaching new concepts. Please discuss with your family the time commitment that being on the volleyball team will require. Not only will your daughter have a responsibility to the team, but so will all the other members of her family. As a parent/guardian, you will need to make sure she gets to practice, and is supported by you at the games.

Academics:

Zeroes for not turning in work are not acceptable. Our team is relying on each person to maintain academic standards that will allow everyone to remain eligible for the entire season. See your athletic code of conduct for consequences associated with not passing a class.

Game day:

Only white or black socks may be worn. Please provide your daughter with a sports bra that is either black, white, or gray. Depending on where the game is, we will leave anywhere between 3:15 and 3:45 on the bus. No one is allowed to leave early from the game unless a note from a parent/guardian is received BEFORE the end of the school day. We want both teams to be able to support one another and it’s not fair if B team kids leave.

Parent/Guardian Expectations:

·  It is expected that parent/guardian(s) will cheer for their daughter to show support.

·  It is not appropriate for parents to yell at the officials. Please do not antagonize them

and make him/her upset with our team because of your behavior. The coaches will handle any problems regarding officials.

·  Since you are not at practices, nor are you in the huddle, you will not know what small details we are telling the girls. We are in a learning phase and some things that you think ought to be happening on the court might not. Playing time will never be fair nor will it ever be discussed. Kids are pretty intuitive when it comes to why they aren’t playing as much as others and they are more than welcome to ask their coach how they can get on the court more.

·  If there is an issue that needs to be addressed with a coach following a game, please use the 24/48 rule. Contact the coach 24 hours after the game is over and before 48 hours has gone by. After that, please drop the issue.

·  If your daughter gets hurt on the court, remain in the stands. We will check her and if you are needed, we will motion for you at that time. Ice any injuries immediately when you get home and notify her coach the next day if the injury is still lingering.

·  Family members are not allowed on or near our bench before, during or after the game. You may send water bottles or messages to your daughter through one of the managers, players, or coaches.

We look forward to a great season of Lady Bullpup Volleyball!!
