Weekly Rate: $230-280

What qualifications are we looking for?

At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following;
· Experience working with children to facilitate inclusion within activity-based programs
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification at minimum,

· Tripping Counsellors require a Wilderness Advanced First Aid Certification (provided; must be available for course dates in the spring)

· *Waterfront and Canoe Focus Trippers require Paddle Canada Canoe Instructor Certification (provided; must be available for course dates in the spring)
· Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
· Three professional references

What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

There are various counsellor roles within Camp Chief Hector:

-General Counsellors

-Resource Counsellors (waterfront*, higher ground, horse, health center, arts and crats, administration, adventure playground)

-Tripping Counsellors (all required to hold a valid WAFA (40hour) certification):

  • Hike Focus
  • Horse Focus
  • Canoe Focus*
  • Arts Focus

All Counsellors will:
· Work as part of a collaborative team to support all campers
· Ensure the delivery of excellent service by identifying and responding in a professional and timely manner to the needs and wants of children and parents/guardians

· Be responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in their group

· Support group development and creative a positive learning environment for all campers

· Be flexible and willing to support the team throughout a busy summer season
· Support the planning and facilitation of intentional, developmentally appropriate play-based learning activities. This includes engagement in active play outside, both scheduled and creative activities
· Ensure a safe and clean environment that is in good repair
· Establish and maintain effective communication standards with stakeholders and professionally represent YMCA Calgary both internally and with the broader community
· Provide support for YMCA initiatives
