Voyage to Mars™

In Earth years, it is 2076. A now routine Voyage to Mars has brought the latest human crew into Martian orbit.

Control of the incoming flight has been transferred from Houston's Mission Control to Mars Control at Chryse Station. The crew arriving from Earth on the Mars Transport Vehicle has been specially trained to replace the existing crew of astronauts, which has manned Mars Control for the past two years.

After arriving on the Martian surface, the team will collect and analyze a number of planetary samples and data. This information is vital to scientists and explorers for a better understanding of the Red Planet.

The Details…

On Tuesday, March 21, CCMS will be taking its 8th graders on a field trip to Colorado Springs. There they will experience a simulated space mission to the Red Planet at the Challenger Learning Center facilities. This experience has been made possible to people across the country through the families of the astronauts lost on the Challenger Space Shuttle. The learning centers are dedicated to their memory as well as those lost on the Columbia Space Shuttle.

There will be two groups flying two separate missions—one in the morning and one in the afternoon. While one group is traveling to Mars, the other group will be on the south side of Colorado Springs at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. We will then eat lunch and switch activities.

Transportation…

All students attending this field trip will depart the middle school as close to 8:30 AM as possible. As soon as all buses have arrived, we will reload and head down the road. We will not return until 5:30 PM. Students will be able to take the activity bus home.

Cost…

Please bring cash or check (made out to CCMS) in the amount of $15.00. Thanks to the PTA, the Clear Creek Booster Club, and the Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Foundation for donating funds that helped pay for the trip! Contact Jill Stansbury with any additional questions: or 303-679-4600.

Food & Dress…

You MUST bring your lunch with you. Also, you may bring money for snacks and souvenirs at the zoo, if you wish. Dress in layers, as you will be outside while at the zoo but inside for the space mission.

Behavior…

Any students who conduct themselves in a manner that is detrimental to learning or disrespectful to peers or adults will be removed from the field trip. Parents will be called to pick up their child.
