8G Exit Project 2011

Purpose: The goal of an exit project is to demonstrate the skills you learned in Social Studies class this year.

Task: Select any topic we have studied or will study in the coming months and ask yourself: How can I teach this to my peers?

1. Written Component (at least 250 words; must be typed, double-spaced, and a 12 point font): Provide a thorough summary of your event to assist you in understanding your selected topic. Present this information in a clear and organized essay. Please be very careful to avoid plagiarism.

2. Resources: You must have at least three (3) resources one of which must be a print source such as a book or lengthy magazine article.

3. Primary Sources: Select a series of primary sources at least four (4) related to your topic. Your resources must be diverse in nature. They cannot all be political cartoons or photographs. Choose a variety of sources.

4. Analyze your source: For each of the sources you select you must identify all the figures, identify any symbols, interpret any wording or phrases, and give the Point of View (POV). This will be attached to your written summary (#1).

5. Visual or Artistic Presentation: Select the presentation style for your summary and document analysis (steps 1 and 4). The goal is to have you demonstrate a thorough understanding of the topic you chose using your primary and secondary research. For example, you may want to create a PowerPoint, a short movie (that must be recorded and given to me in DVD format), a comic book, an original piece of artwork, a mini-review book. Essentially, you have the power to choose which method of presentation you would like to use for this assignment. You may not post the documents on a posterboard with your summary. I am open to suggestions.

6. In-class presentations: Selected students (we will start with volunteers) will be asked to present their work to the class. You will not be graded on this portion of the assignment. Your peers will evaluate your ability to convey information. In-class presentations will be discussed further as the time approaches.
