Integration of existing reporting system and Q-Pulse

Being able to integrate our existing data capture form into Q-Pulse was a business critical factor for us.

Operating more domestic Canadian flights than any airline, serving dozens of US destinations, and undertaking numerous domestic and international charters, Jazz Air (Jazz) is one of Canada’s largest air carriers.

With more than 5,000 staff and 128 aircraft, the airline identified Q-Pulse from Gael Ltd as the solution to streamline their safety management system (SMS) processes. During the Q-Pulse implementation period, it was clear that many existing SMS activities would be streamlined using Q-Pulse, developed by Gael Ltd, as a one-stop solution.

However, Jazz had a web-based safety reporting system in place and felt it was unnecessary to re-train their staff to use Q-Pulse to raise reports – especially as they deal with 500+ such reports from front-line staff each month. What Jazz Air required was an ability to have their existing reporting process integrated into their new Q-Pulse system.

David Deveau, Director of Safety Quality and Environment at Jazz, said: “Other than tweaking the interface, we realized that our existing safety reporting process was perfectly adequate for our requirements, if we could get it to talk to Q-Pulse.

“We have 5,000 employees of various professions, computer literacy levels and even language backgrounds so our main stumbling block was that we needed to find a way to encourage large numbers of people to submit safety reports in a very user-friendly, seamless and low-tech way.”

Working with Gael’s Development team, a successful solution was found by utilising Gael’s API technology, allowing data captured through Jazz’s existing web reports to be integrated easily into Q-Pulse.

Engineered to integrate with existing organizational processes and infrastructure, Q-Pulse provided Jazz with a flexible solution that would fit in with what already worked in a mature and successful safety management system.

David added: “Being able to integrate our existing data capture form into Q-Pulse was a business critical factor for us. We want to encourage a reporting culture at Jazz and we knew from a lot of experience that changing our data capture process from our current operation could do more damage than good.

“Being able to integrate data captured outside Q-Pulse, and considering all the other strengths that Q-Pulse offers, means the software is very much a viable SMS solution in an environment where front-line reporting is at such a high volume.

“With this ability, Q-Pulse becomes a strong platform for aviation SMS.”
