Paul E. Strandjord Young Investigator Awards
Eligibility
The purpose of this program is to encourage young investigators to consider a career in academic laboratory medicine.
- Residents, fellows, and students in programs leading to a doctoral degree in the health sciences who have participated in research with a member of ACLPS, or who are sponsored by an ACLPS member, are eligible for the Paul E. Strandjord Young Investigator Award Program. Individuals holding the faculty rank of instructor are eligible to receive a young investigator award as long as they are still in training (i.e. they have not formally completed their residency or are still in a fellowship).
- Students in programs leading to nondoctoral degrees who have conducted research with an ACLPS member may be considered upon written request from the ACLPS sponsor to the Director, Young Investigator Awards Program. Decisions on such requests will be at the discretion of the Director.
- To receive an award, the young investigator must present the paper and must still be in training at the time of presentation at the annual meeting. By signing the abstract form, the sponsoring ACLPS member verifies the eligibility of the young investigator.
Nature of the Awards
The Executive Council of ACLPS establishes the number of awards and the amount of each award to be given annually. The Executive Council has authorized up to 30 awards this year. Each awardee attends the meeting as a guest of the Academy (costs for registration, banquet, reception, breakfasts and lunches during the annual meeting are waived), and is reimbursed for travel and lodging expenses up to a maximum of $800.
Method of Selection
A committee of ACLPS members will review and grade each paper. To ensure fairness, all reviewers are blinded to the identity of the authors and the institution where the work was done and do not review papers that originate from their institutions. This blinded peer review process will be the basis for selection of abstracts for awards.
