Bad timing from the Russian Government. As can be seen in this listing, as per February 9th 2009 they are offering a large number of aircraft for sale as scrap metal. However, the price of scrap metal is less than half of what it was a year ago. Some of these aircraft were reported in the past as for sale but it seems this was not completed successfully and therefore the melting pot is their final fate. The aircraft offered for sale as scrap are in the listing below as "s/s (sale/scrap) 09feb09" and their latest unit is given in the remarks. This naturally to save space as our intention is not to produce white paper.
Fujairah's reconstruction: - after a recent royal wedding in the city when parking space for the twenty or so visiting biz jets became a real problem, the authorities have decided to clear the ramps of the stored unserviceable aircraft and work had already begun to part out Il-18 3X-GEZ and break up Il-76 S9-DAE. There are also plans to build new freight ramps on the opposite side of the runway from the terminal and to extend the runway at the sea end to allow for take offs towards the mountains!?!
Regarding the An12 ban, it has been reported that the remaining An-12 aircraft in the UAE that can fly will be permitted one flight out of the UAE before the end of March.
