Course Syllabus:
Participants shall gain a basic understanding and an overview of the European integration process. Some theory will be used to discuss the EU as a peculiar regional integration scheme and to highlight institutional problems of decision-making. The emphasis is, however, on presenting the history, the current state, the institutional set-up and the main points of various policy fields.
Course Content:
History of European integration in the light of regional integration theory; “State of the Union”: Major economic indicators, organisational set-up and overview of current issues; market integration in goods, services and factor markets; common policies with the focus on trade, agricultural, regional policies; monetary union; enlargement
