Founding Director of Occupational Therapy

St. Bonaventure University (SBU) is seeking applicants for the Founding Director of Occupational Therapy (OT) to establish a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) degree program and to direct the proposed Department of Occupational Therapy within the School of Health Professions.This is a tenure track appointment at the assistant or associate level, based on experience. The Director will enjoy many opportunities for inter-professional education as the other members of the School of Health Professions Team become established. These will include Health Sciences, Public Health, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies and Healthcare Cyber Security. Collaborative relationships are being developed with local hospitals, medical practices and other community partners upon which to build MSOT program partnerships.The Director of Occupational Therapy reports to the Dean of the School of Health Professions and is a member of the SHPS Management Team.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Development of the new program and curricula
  • Lead the effort to establish accreditation for the MSOT program
  • Effective leadership to implement the respective missions and strategic plans of the University or School
  • Administrative and logistical support of the department
  • Mentorship of junior faculty
  • Development and management of the department budget
  • Effective communication to advocate for the department with the institution and communities of interest
  • Active participation in professional associations related to department

Successful candidates will have the following selected qualifications and skills:

  • Eligible for licensure as a registered OT in NYS and hold appropriate professional Certification
  • An earned doctoral degree
  • A minimum of 8 years of documented experience in the field of occupational therapy.
  • This experience must include:
  • Clinical practice as an occupational therapist;
  • Administrative experience including, but not limited to, program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation, and budgeting;
  • Scholarship (e.g., scholarship of application, scholarship of teaching and learning); and
  • At least 3 years of experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the postsecondary level.
  • Demonstrated managerial competencies to oversee a comprehensive Department of OT and record of effective leadership and management in key areas of responsibility including accreditation, budgeting, strategic planning, assessment, collaboration, and curriculum development
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary clinical practice in MSOT
