Fall 2016 Categories Description
All 5k volunteers over 18 years old must complete a GOTR background check. No fee to you. Openings are limited. Start and End times may change or vary.
Equipment Setup – 6:00am
- Early arrival to assist in getting tables and chairs setup and place inventory boxes at correct locations/tents; hang signs, or any other finishing touches before participants arrive.
Volunteer Check - In – 6:30am
- Check in Volunteers. Provide any handouts. Direct to assigned stations.
Participant Check - In – 6:30am
- Check in coaches and Run Buddies, provide run bibs packets to coaches along with Team Sign; Check off Run Buddy and provide run bib and bandana; this category ends early and you can move toother areas that need assistance or cheer runners along the sidelines!
Cheer Gear – 6:30am start setup
- This table will host fun give-awaysand handouts for friends and family to help cheer on their girls during the run. Volunteers should open boxes and display product. Give-aways could include cowbells, pompoms, megaphones, noise makers, etc;
- Volunteers should clean up area and condense empty boxes.
Happy Hair/Face Tattoo Station – 6:30am
- Starts as soon as runners arrive to check in! Most popular & fast paced booth, handles all running participants by spray painting hair, and applying face tattoos
- Volunteers wear non latex gloves and cover runners faces to protect from overspray
- Volunteers must be setup and ready to go by 7am, clean up area, condense trash and empty spray cans
Inspiration Station – 6:30am
- Poster making station; supplies provided for all event attendees to make fun and colorful posters to help cheer on their runners on poster boards using colorful markers and stickers.
- Volunteers assist with creative ideas, keep track of supplies and discard unusable materials (dry markers, etc). Regroup usable and leftover materials and repack in bins
Sparkle Runner (aka Run Buddy) – 7:00am
- Check in and be on standby at GOTR station as need is identified, Run Buddy will be paired with a girl if possible
- Run buddies provide encouragement and support to their GOTR assigned girl throughout the 5k course and acts as a personal cheerleader for their buddy. The Running Buddy completes the 5k with their buddy and expresses support and enthusiasm for her accomplishment!
- If we are not able to pair you up with a girl, Sparkle Runners are asked to run the 5k route and monitor to be sure that all girls have made it through the finish line. This may mean that you will be at the end of the start line and move at a pace that keeps in line with the slower GOTR runners.
- All Run Buddies must be at least 18 years old and must complete a background check.
- Background check link provided upon registration completion and is no cost to you.
Course Monitor –6:30am
- Course Monitors must be in place for 7:30 & 8:30am 5ks
- There are several locations throughout the 3.2 mile course where runners will need to be guided. Course monitors are strategically placed in several areas for direction control. You are encouraged to stop at the Inspiration stations and make fun posters during pre-run activities.
- Course Monitors may be directed to Southern Arizona Roadrunners race director for placement.
Medical Staff – 7:00am
- RN and other medical staff host First Aid Stations only
Finish Line Medals – 8:30am (9am - approximate time first GOTR runners will finish)
- Prepare area finish line area
- Hand out medals at finish line; volunteers should identify location of medals and identify GOTR runners (girls, coaches and run buddies) by either GOTR tee and/or bib #’s.
- All girls and coaches wear #1 bibs, all Run Buddies and Sparkle Runners wear #2 bibs.
