JOB TITLE: Early Head Start Education Mentor Coach

CLASSIFICATION: Full Time/Regular

General Description

Under the direction of the program director, the Early Head Start Education Mentor Coach will work to ensure all aspects of the education service area meet or exceed the requirements of the Head Start Performance Standards, Georgia Bright from the Start: Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) Rules and Regulations and the Tallatoona CAP, Inc. Early Head Start Child Care Partnership and all other federal, state and local regulations as applicable.

In conjunction with the Early Childhood Education Manager, the Early Head Start Education Mentor Coach, modeling a collaborative team approach will mentor, train and provide technical assistance to Early Head Start Child Care Partnership classroom teachers to ensure they are receiving the necessary support to successfully implement the curriculum and foster developmentally appropriate practices that support high quality learning and school readiness.

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop positive, supportive relationships with teaching staff.

Develop a schedule to observe classrooms and establish a foundation to determine training needs.

Conduct classroom, teacher observations and review education folders, portfolios, lesson plans and improvement plans generated by Quality Assurance Monitor in order to develop individual coaching plans, inclusive of goals and outcomes for teaching staff.

Provide staff training and staff support in the classroom modeling best practices in curriculum and education service area implementation to assure compliance with all applicable guidelines.

Train and assist teachers on proper administration of screenings for children.

Provide initial and ongoing training and technical assistance to teaching staff regarding program philosophy, policies, procedures and other topics as requested or assigned to ensure the uniform delivery of quality services.

Train and assist teachers with curriculum assessment and child outcomes tracking program.

Provide training for new teachers in curriculum implementation and classroom management policies and procedures.

Support new teachers as they gain knowledge of their roles and responsibilities.

Provide constructive feedback and support to teaching staff that allows for learning and growth.

Monitor and document progressions of teaching staff to ensure success implementation of a developmentally appropriate infant/toddler program for continuous quality improvement.

Assist Early Childhood Education Manager in planning and implementing pre-service and in-service trainings.

Develop training workshops based on results of observations and assessments.

Conduct classroom assessments using the classroom environment rating tool.

Assist families with transition into Early Head Start as well as families transitioning out of the program into Head Start or child care.

Maintain confidentiality at all times of program participants, staff and records in accordance with all applicable guidelines and procedures.

Adhere to NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.

Promote staff and parent understanding of Early Head Start and Head Start program philosophy, goals, objectives, policies and procedures.

Develop and promote positive, professional, constructive relationships between Early Head Start staff and Child Care Partnership staff in order to ensure effective communication to support program quality and compliance.

Submit monthly and weekly reports to the Early Head Start Administrator and Early

Childhood Education Manager as directed.

Participate in the annual Self-Assessment and strategic planning process.

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong understanding of infant and toddler development and developmentally appropriate practices required.

Excellent verbal, written, organizational and interpersonal skills and have the ability to plan and organize.

Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and Georgia Bright from the Start Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) Rules and Regulations.

Demonstrated organizational, problem solving skills and extreme attention to detail required.

Proven ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task under time constraints in a high activity environment with minimal supervision.

Ability to work with individuals inclusive of all ethnic, racial and cultural backgrounds.

Ability to work as a team member collaborating with staff, parents and community resources.

Must be able to attend and participate in required meetings and trainings at various locations and be able to work a flexible schedule.

Basic knowledge of the community and its resources is required.

Intermediate to advanced computer skills, Internet and email.

Individual with both oral and written English/Spanish bilingual skills preferred.

Must be able to provide instructional leadership and training in various education components relating to curriculum and education guidelines.

Must have access to reliable transportation and be willing to travel to Early Head Start Child Care Partner sites in six counties (Bartow, Floyd, Gordon, Haralson, Paulding, and Polk).

Frequent local travel and occasional overnight and out of area travel.

Must meet agency attendance requirements.

Education and Experience

Associates degree in Early Childhood Education with an Infant/Toddler focus preferred.

A minimum of three years experience teaching in an infant/toddler or three to four year old preschool classroom environment implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum.

Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field is preferred.

Experience developing and delivering training to adult learners preferred.

Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and Georgia Bright from the Start Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) Rules and Regulations preferred.

Work Environment

This job operates in a childcare environment. This role routinely requires interactions with children, parents, noisy and fast paced day to day activities. Requires uses of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
