The SeattleCoach Training Program

General Program, Vision and Goals

Our program focuses equally on two core elements that are crucial to solid leadership as a coach:

·  The essential skills that are the tools to learn, practice, refine and to then personalize.

·  The essential presence of comes from a leader/coach’s own awareness of their own style, niche and specialty.

For coaches-in-training who want to begin building their “portfolio” for eventual examination and credentialing with the International Coach Federation, this Program is designed to be foundational to that process.

History of the Program

Through thirty years as a coach, pastoral counselor and marriage and family therapist, Patty has been excited about bringing together and facilitating motivated groups. She thinks groups are magic. After practicing full-time as a coach for several years and finishing her Professional Certified Coach credential with the International Coach Federation, she was receiving a steady stream of inquiries about coach training. In the spring of 2008, she broadcast an invitation to interested people to come explore the idea and, finding significant enthusiasm, she designed the foundational Modules of the Program. The first training group (we call them cohorts) launched on May 1 of that year, and has been followed by eight more by mid-2011. New cohorts now launch quarterly.

Each of the two foundational Modules takes between three and four months to complete. Upon completion of Modules I and II, coaches are then invited to join a MentorCoaching group, meeting with other coaches twice a month for continued learning, support, practice-building tips and case consultation.

The Philosophy Behind the Program

Patty’s background, experience, training, special areas of expertise and excitement, even her times of tough personal growth and development have all brought her to a terrific intersection: Expertise and depth in coaching + wisdom and excitement about groups + restless/eager/available learners.

Philosophically, Patty brings diverse theories of coaching and applied behavior science her work:

1. strengths-based leadership

2. positive psychology

3. somatic coaching practices

4. systems theory

6. and the Core Competencies of the International Coach Federation.

Two key factors are unique to the SeattleCoach Training Program. First is the highly personalized, face-to-face nature of the training. Unlike many training programs, this one meets locally with small cohorts of local colleagues who work between sessions as homework partners and then continue to grow together as allies. Second, we select participants who are proven leaders. They know themselves well, already think of themselves as coaches and are eager to refine their skills and presence.

Included is regular access to Patty via telephone, email, voicemail and "office hours" before and after class. Also included are quarterly events hosted by SeattleCoach for all member coaches, past and present.

Intended Participants

The leaders and managers who have entered the SeattleCoach Training Program fall into three categories:

·  Leaders who come with the support of their companies, groups or churches with the goal of building a strong “Coaching Culture” within their organizations,

·  Seasoned professional people who want to build their depth of skill as a leader, mentor and manager,

·  And people who are considering a new career in Professional Coaching.

Pre-requisites

We start with an informational interview where we welcome your questions, find out about your background and goals, and get a general, intuitive sense of your maturity and "fit" for this Program.

If green lights ensue for both of us, you will be invited to collaborate on the meeting schedule for the next cohort. Once we agree together on the schedule of a new cohort, we’ll launch. Following the first meeting, we’ll ask you to commit or cancel. There are no other formal pre-requisites.

Admission and Expectations

Admission to the Program is by mutual agreement following an initial interview. We ask all coaches-in-training to agree:

1.  to treat attendance as a top priority in their schedules,

2.  to participate in meetings,

3.  to commit to working on their coaching skills and philosophy between meetings,

4.  to availability to their homework partners,

5.  and to learn and practice the ICF Code of Ethics and standards of confidentiality, beginning with the group's process.

Payment of Tuition

The tuition for each Module is $2100, payable at the beginning of each Module by check or credit card (see the box in the middle of this page on my website). Participants can also opt for two payments of $1100. This tuition includes an hour of personal coaching with Patty at a time of your choosing during each Module. We ask that you use these sessions prior to the mentorcoaching required for credentialing.

In addition, discounted coaching and mentorcoaching is available for all coaches-in-training both during and following their training.

Withdrawals and Refunds

We ask that coaches in this Program make a full or partial tuition payment at the first meeting of each Module. If, within twenty-four hours of that first meeting, a coach decides to withdraw, SeattleCoach LLC will make a full refund. After that, we consider the tuition paid and each coach a committed participant.

The small print: The SeattleCoach Training Program has been approved as 140.5 hours of Approved Coach Specific Training Hours (“ACSTH”) by the International Coach Federation (ICF). The Approved Coach Specific Training Hours designation is awarded to programs that follow the ICF Definition of Coaching, Code of Ethics, and Core Competencies, and that meet professional standards for coach training programs established by the ICF. Graduation from an ACSTH program will meet the ICF's requirements for individual coach certification for student contact learning hours for the number of hours of the program. ACSTH approval does not warrant or guarantee the effectiveness of the training or the student's ability to build a successful coaching practice. The individual applicant must take the ICF’s portfolio exam to obtain their credential.
