DIRECTOR OF YOUTH

First Reformed Church, Sibley, Iowa

(A Fulltime, Ordained or Non-ordained Position)

I.  Job Objective

A.  To set the spiritual tone for junior (C4) and senior high school (Deep Impact)

B.  To challenge the congregation in its vision for youth ministry within its membership and in the surrounding community.

C.  To present the Word of God so that our youth will be drawn to Christ, to each other and through them as a witness to the world for Christ.

II.  Responsibilities

A.  Youth Ministry

1)  Develop, with the sponsors, a yearly calendar of activities and programs creating opportunities for spiritual growth in the Christian faith for both high school and junior high

2)  Relate and build relationships with the youth

3)  Assist in finding sponsors for Senior and Junior High youth groups

4)  Organize fund-raising activities as needed

5)  Create leadership opportunities for students to use their God-given gifts and abilities

B.  Deep Impact (high school)

1)  Weekly year-round meetings.

2)  At least one annual weekend retreat

3)  At least two mission trips or conferences, every four years

4)  Seek personal contact with each student in our youth program. This may take the form of social media contacts, contact at events, or personal visits

5)  Weekly visits to the schools over the students lunch hour (when permissible)

6)  Relationship building activities (i.e. bowling, concert) at least four annually

C.  C4 (junior high)

1)  Bi-monthly meetings (year-round)

2)  At least one annual church retreat

3)  Involvement in the annual classis retreat

4)  Seek personal contact with each student in our youth program. This may take the form of social media contacts, contact at events, or personal visits

5)  Weekly visits to the schools over the students lunch hour (when permissible)

6)  Relationship building activities at least three annually

D.  Other

1)  Attend consistory as a non-voting member

2)  Organize Youth Sunday worship service

3)  Participate in worship in consultation with Lead Pastor

4)  Work with youth ministry team to recruit resource and train adult leaders.

5)  Visit any youth who are hospitalized, sick or have had a loss in the family.

6)  Active involvement in the larger educational program of church (S.S., bible class and VBS)

7)  Monthly meeting with the Youth Ministry Team to review programs, change proposals, and new ministry ideas.

8)  Set and maintain consistent office hours

E.  Finances

1)  Work with the youth Ministry Team in preparing an annual budget for C4 and Deep Impact

2)  Submit a financial statement showing youth ministry income and expenses, quarterly to YMT and a year-end statement to the deacon

III.  Requirements

A.  Education

Applicant should possess a degree in Christian Education and/or related education or experience that would qualify a person to be a Director of Youth and Education

B.  General Attributes

1)  He/she shall be a Christian recognizing Jesus Christ as his/her personal Lord and Savior, with the ability to communicate that faith to others

2)  He/she will have a demonstrable devotional life

3)  He/she shall subscribe to and become familiar with the teachings of the Reformed Church in America

4)  He/she shall have a working knowledge of the needs of young adults

5)  He/she shall be a personable and outgoing individual

6)  He/she shall be creative, flexible, and innovative in program and ministry

7)  He/she shall have proficient administrative and organizational skills

C.  Supervision

1)  He/she shall be supervised by the Lead Pastor and accountable to the consistory

2)  He/she will meet weekly with the Lead Pastor for goal setting, evaluation, prayer, problem solving, and sharing

3)  Job performance will be reviewed by the Administrative Team on a quarterly basis during the first year and semi-annually thereafter

4)  The job description may be adjusted by the Youth Ministry Team according to the church’s needs and programs, or the interests and abilities of the DYE

5)  They will give a monthly report to the Youth Ministry Team

6)  If either party wishes to terminate this appointment, a written notice of 30 (thirty) days must be given
