Design & Drawing for Production

Course Outline

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course combines basic technical drawing with solving design problems. The students will be presented a series of design/engineering problems that will be solved with the use of drawings, resulting in the creation of a model of their design, and testing of their design model. This course may be used for the required art credit.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Students that become actively involved in the Design and Drawing for Production course will be expected to:

  1. Solve design problems in a unique, vigorous and creative manner by conceptualizing, visualizing and using sequential, logical and ordered systems.
  2. Communicate graphically with accuracy and precision.
  3. Experience a wide variety of problems, while demonstrating competence in traditional methods of industry.
  4. Evaluate the quality for man-made objects, through the application of historical knowledge, technical description and aesthetic judgment.
  5. Understand the impact of environmental, social and economic factors of their design.

NEW YORK STATE STANDARDS FOR LEARNING

  1. Apply technological knowledge and skills to design, construct, use and evaluate products and systems to satisfy human and environmental needs.
