CourseDescription:

Introduction to the fundamental principles of animation that are the basis for traditional and computer animation. Hand-drawn exercises are utilized to learn timing, motion and weights. Covers introduction to the early history of animation.

CourseStudentLearningObjectives

1.LearnandpracticethePrinciplesofAnimation:timing,motion,weight,thusgainingthebasicskillsetneeded for thoseproceedinginto2-D and3-D ComputerAnimation.ProduceaReelof originalexercisesthat demonstratesthisknowledge.

2.Learntocriticallyanalyzeone’sown animationwork anddo activeproblemsolvingtoimprovework.

3.Learncoursespecifictechnology:Down shootingPencilTesttechnology, 2D and 3D animation software such asToonBoom Pencil,AdobeFlash, etc.

5.ThisisanAnimationsurveyclass.Studentswilldevelopcriticalthinkingskillsof analyzingandcomparing animationcontext,styles,content,socialpolitical,economicandglobalfactorsthatinfluencedanimationover theyears.

•StudentwillbecomeawareofAnimationhistoricalandculturalcontextthroughscreenings,lectures,and individualresearch.

•Identifymilestones,studios,andkeyplayersinUSAnimationandwhy theyweresignificanttotheindustry.

•Becomeawareof crossdisciplinenatureofanimationand cultural influences.

6. Learn animationcareerpaths.Learnandpracticeprofessionalteamwork,professionalbehavior,and protocols.

  • We will view and critique most assignments together as a class.
  • For each class a project is late, it will lose a letter grade.
  • Assignments that are more than two weeks late will not be accepted.
