NOTES FOR RUNNERS - Please pay particular attention to the following points:-
EMERGENCY NUMBER FOR RACE ORGANISER IS - 0797 0186 571
Each runner MUST carry or wear water/windproof whole body cover, plus hat, gloves, whistle, compass and relevant map!! Otherwise you will not be permitted to run. The definition of this as prescribed by the FRA is replicated below.
Please note, in 2012, a team (which would have finished in 4th place), were disqualified for not carrying the required kit, spot checks will take place, and teams will continue to be disqualified if in breach of any rules.
I am writing to the organisers of events, which have Permits and associated UK Athletics insurance from the FRA, to remind them of the FRA compulsory kit carrying requirements for all relay events. This general reminder follows on from a relay race organiser being reported to the “FRA Disciplinary Committee” for not ensuring that the requirements were complied with in 2011.
The requirements are described in Sections 9 and 14 of the “FRA Safety Requirements for Fell Races” which can be found in the FRA Calendar & Handbook and on the FRA website
The minimum kit to be carried by all members of relay teams is:-
a. Windproof whole body cover.
b. Other body cover appropriate for the weather conditions.
c. Map and compass suitable for navigating the course.
d. Whistle.
The compulsory kit requirements for all relays were introduced because of the possibility of less experienced runners being included in a relay team.
Of course race organisers are free to impose any additional requirements they deem necessary.
Requirement 14 also states that:
“All leg winners and at least 10% of other competitors MUST have their equipment checked on finishing and any transgression of the organiser’s requirements MUST result in instant disqualification of the offending team.”
In addition to the above, Halifax Harriers have enlisted the help from Calder Valley Search and Rescue, who will be out on the course throughout the day.
Raynet (radio control) will also be present at each checkpoint to ensure all runners are accounted for. These measures are in place to ensure your safety.

We need everyone's co-operation and good sense, it has been necessary to reduce the number of teams in the event due to past problems with parking and all runners must obey the rules of the road,
Police are often in attendance and will issue penalty notices, it is the responsibility of all drivers to park courteously for the benefit of all residents and to ensure the longevity of this event. Please do not remove No Parking Signs or Cones, these are there for the very purpose of not permitting parking at those points.
Please do not obstruct driveways of local residents and please be courteous. Keep noise down especially early in the morning. In particular, because of heavy congestion in past races, the following rules will be applied:-

There is adequate parking on the road to Jack Bridge. Please follow directions from marshals. The localresidents are happy to support the event as long as it is well managed and have agreed to provide tea and cakes for leg 3 finishersand supporters,so please try and support this gesture by taking some cash along to purchase these.
