Amie Shuttleworth appointed Global Head of Sustainability for Cundall

Amie Shuttleworth has been appointed Global Head of Sustainability by international multi-disciplinary engineer Cundall. Amie joins Cundall from Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd whereshe was Head of Sustainability.

Based in the Hong Kong office, Amie will focus on developing Cundall’s global sustainability strategy whilst further advancing the strengths of Cundall’s sustainability consulting services in Hong Kong, Asia Pacific and the rest of the world.

As part of her role, Amie will be developing initiatives in support of Cundall’s One Planet Living accreditation and extending its offer for clients to use the One Planet sustainability tool on projects. She will also be responsible for embedding sustainability throughout the business and its supply chain, including the implementation of a comprehensive programme of sustainability training for both graduate engineers and more experienced staff.

Recognised as one of Building Magazine’s Rising Stars of Sustainability in 2013, Amie’s experience includes the sustainability management of major projects such as the £390m Quadrant 3 development for The Crown Estate, and the development and implementation of a five-year business sustainability strategy for Sir Robert McAlpine, which included using financial metrics to track impacts in order to influence decision making. Following completion of her part-time Masters Degree in Sustainability Leadership in 2013, Amie’s passion for sustainability even took her on a sabbatical to the Charles Darwin Research Centre on the island of Santa Cruz, Galapagos, where she was responsible for designing and constructing a naturally ventilated library, whilst simultaneously working with Architects at the Princes Foundation to develop a prototype low-impact house.

TomásNeeson, Managing Partner of Cundall said. “Amie joining Cundall is great news for the practice, and is a demonstration of our commitment to deliver sustainability, both through our business and through construction generally. Being based in Hong Kong Amie is ideally placed to bridge the globe from our renowned sustainability offering in Australia, to the Gulf and also in the UK.”

Amie says, “I’m thrilled by the opportunity of leading the sustainability strategy through the next stage of its journey. Cundall's outstanding reputation is richly deserved, not least due to the founding principles laid down in 1976, but also the sustainability know-how and its commitment to projects, people, business and leadership which resulted in it being the first consultancy to achieve the One Planet Company endorsement.”

Cundall: 40 years of clever, friendly engineering

Cundall is an international multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy with over 600 staff, operating in over 11 countries across the globe.

2016 sees Cundall (Cundall Johnston and Partners LLP) celebrating its 40th anniversary. Established in 1976, Cundall’s founding partners shared a common vision that the practice would become a leading multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy built on sound ethical principles. For 40 years, Cundall’s engineering expertise, coupled with creativity, innovation and a deep-rooted understanding of people and communities, has allowed the business to develop the best possible solutions for clients’ projects. We are Clever, Friendly Engineers.

Harkening back to the founders’ roots, sustainability is integral to our approach. We provide our clients with practical advice and solutions, which reduce the environmental impact of developments, and provide better spaces for building users and occupiers, as well as for the wider community.

Cundall is the world’s first consultancy to be endorsed as a One Planet Company. As a business, Cundall has implemented a number of sustainable initiatives on projects around the world, as well as in our offices. For example, Cundall’s new London office at One Carter Lane is the first building in Europe to achieve the WELL Building Standard certification, a goal intended to put the health and wellbeing of the occupants at the heart of building design.
